I... really dislike Pirate Warriors. I don't mind Dynasty Warriors itself but something about PW just does not sit too well with me.
I really loved DW7, but I admit that it's because the story presentation in that one was the best in the series. Pirate Warriors is trying to stay pretty faithful since characters and their personalities are set in stone unlike DW, which is more of a fanfiction of ROTK.
And I guess I just want more from One Piece games in the gameplay department.

Blackbeard is the true antagonist of One Piece. He's basically an anti-Luffy, wanting to become Pirate King through his powers whereas Luffy's gum gum powers were initially going to keep him from ever becoming a pirate. Blackbeard also worked under Whitebeard whereas Luffy has outright rejected every offer to join other groups. Blackbeard is also the one responsible for Ace's death, since while Akainu dealt the final blow it is the fight with Blackbeard that led to his capture.
if I had to guess how the 'final' arc will play out, the Strawhats will defeat Kaido and Big Mam this arc, and Blackbeard will swoop in to take their devil fruits as he did Whitebeard's. Now effectively invincible, Luffy will become a Shichibukai and work with the world government in a fight against the Yonko Blackbeard

This was my theory for some time - that Oda first puts all these doors for potential events, without planning, and then just uses them when needed. But on the other hand - if he does, he has to be a fucking amazing writer, since they always seem natural and very thoughtful. And I think there's just so long you can bullshit like that, before it all crumbles down.
So, now I'm more into the theory that he really does plan whole arcs ahead, but starts with loose ideas. He might've had an idea that Doflamingo is an underground broker and produces DF. Just didn't know how, for who etc. It's still incredible how you can read this series a few times and always find something new.

Face it - what you're calling "dragged out", is just something we;ve had in OP since forever. It felt dragged, because you're probably new to the series and it was the first big arc you had to read on a weekly basis. Guess what - people were saying the same about Fishman Island, and I know tons of people who recently re-read it and, besides the Hody reveal of doing all this bad shit without purpose, they agree that it's far better when read in one go. It just got a lot of bad press, because many people started reading OP duing Marineford. Maybe you too.
