Mayoiga is exactly why the Japanese should never attempt to write any show that mirroring LOST or that involves any sort of subtle/mysterious premise.
They are so fucking awful at it. Their idea of character is to give everyone an obnoxious shtick and stupid gimmick past that we've seen a thousand times before. Because they do not have personalities and instead have shticks, the shticks detract from any on screen action and make everything seem stupid.
I.E. Shouting EXECUTE! EXECUTE! EXECUTE! every time she appears makes Lovepon a roadblock to any actually story rather than an asset. The equally ridiculous and obnoxious PITAAAAAAA nonsense also slows down everything and ruins any mood that could be created. Same with the extremely stupid JACK/JUSTICE nickname thing.
The show has no meaning because whatever plot is there is getting entirely buried under shticks. Then we get gimmick pasts that are basically plagiarism. Lovepon's backstory is like the generic Japanese sob story. Nyanta's is lifted from all over the place as well (the bb gun subplot has been a thing since before Higurashi).
Everything is stupid and ridiculous. This show went from being sort of okay to being one of the worst of the season. All because of the inability of the Japanese to write characters as people and their stupid reliance on gimmicks/shticks in lieu.

Well, they're definitely not the same even if it looks like they're going to follow a somewhat similar arc of development. Mikado wasn't necessarily bottling up anything inside of him, he just had a compulsive need for an exciting life that the audience didn't know the extent of until shit hit the fan. He's a genuinely nice person, he's just fucking weird.
Mitsumune, on the other hand, is actively trying to put up a facade while harboring a ton of resentment. We don't know the depths of that resentment just as we didn't know the extent of Mikado's need for excitement, but the difference is that Mitsumune is intentionally hiding his inner feelings as opposed to not having an opportunity to show them to the audience. They have similarities, but Mitsumune is lying about his nature rather than omitting stuff about it.

So, there is indeed a monster running around. No, the monster did not kill Yottsun, Masaki did it. I asked Okada if she was aware that the manga pretty much spoiled it and she said she wishes it hadn't and apologized for it. Jack is actually dead. Masaki killed him after cutting him loose and taking him to the forest. What Judgeness saw was another phantom that the others keep seeing. (Mikage is alright by the way, the phantoms are practically harmless and are only bait to lure them to the monster.) Judgeness is also dead. Next episode, Nanko is gonna do a bit of sleuthing but will be the first person to get herself killed by the monster, which will be the first confirmed kill in the show. (The others are already dead.) The knife you see in the PV is actually part of Mitsumune's backstory. It's revealed that he had a twin brother that he ended up killing with the knife. It is also revealed that Tokimune was Maimai's love interest, but he rejected her spectacularly. Mitsumune killed him later on, but for his own reasons. The penguin we see belonged to both Mitsu and Toki, but Mitsu claims it as his own. The monster is revealed at episode 8, but the bloodbath that we all keep waiting for will start in episode 9. As you all figured out, the promo pictures that gradually keep showing the group getting smaller as the day progresses is true. The final episode will be centered around Masaki and Mitsumune, since everyone else was murdered by Mitsu and Masaki or eaten by the monster. At the very end, Masaki and Mitsumune are seen with her "older sister." She tells them to take the bus with them and prepare for "next year's harvest." A shot of Koharun is seen while she drives the kids back to central Japan. She is singing the creepy Nanaki song along with Mitsu and Masaki. Roll credits.
Of course the episode I delay watching 'cause finals is "Exposition: the episode."

In a way he sort of reminds me of Shirou. Just as Shirou has a self-destructive need to be everyone's savior, Mitsumune has a self-destructive need to play the role of a good boy.
Shirou didn't resent anyone after having saved them the way Mitsumune regrets letting himself being walked all over, though. I get the sense that Mitsumune's need to be a good boy comes from external pressures, whereas Shirou's wanting to be a superhero was something internal.

The reason I give credence to Koharun theories is because I get flashbacks to Umineko when they would play with your expectations by sometimes waving the correct answer in your face as part of the character's speculation knowing that you would dismiss it if it was already brought up because it would be "too easy" and thereby be thrown off the trail.

I think a lot of Speedo's protectiveness stems from the worry that people who don't understand Mitsumune are more likely to exacerbate his condition. Masaki in particular seems to be the best argument for this, because Masaki is the one who commented that Mitsumune's name suits him (the very same name which Speedo took issue with).
In fact, I think Mitsumune ties up so much of that "good boy" image in his name that Masaki commenting upon it is the reason why he's so fixated on her. It's like being told that he truly is "Mitsumune" is the ultimate validation for him and tells him he's doing a good job playing his role as someone who never gets on anybody's bad side. It'd be pretty sinister if he wasn't interested in her at all, but the validation that she gave him in that single offhanded compliment.
