/a/ is about 700 posts away from reaching 141400000.

/vg/ is about 3,300 posts away from reaching 141400000.

In about an hour or so, /vg/ will officially pass /a/'s post count, making /a/ only the fourth largest board on 4chan for the first time in /a/'s history.

This is going to be a monumental moment, so let us reminiscence in /a/'s history.

On paper, there's a place for generals, especially for a board as fast as /v/, and which doesn't self-regulate as well as /a/. Or at all, really.

1. A major new release will warrant a ton of attention and you'll want to pool that in one place to not overwhelm the catalog.
2. Sometimes you'll want to talk about something but /v/ is too fast.

So it becomes a fine, focused resource when something like, say, a fanwiki is too obtuse.

The reality though is that barring something like the nuclear option(see /a/'s half-assed attempt to get rid of generals), they had to move stuff like the undying Katawa Shoujo generals somewhere.

People stayed, and people never left even when the well ran dry and just kept making threads. Communities spurred on simply because they didn't want to let go or just enjoyed their safe spaces or a place where they could enjoy being "recognized" in a place that prizes anonymity and threads dying when they've run past their limit. Something like a more conventional forum.

So you have something with the speed of /v/ with somehow even less of an attempt to even be tangentially related to video games, even for generals focused on multiplayer titles.

/v/'s janitors and mods will at least sometimes remove a thread if it's clearly something stupid and inane like a /pol/ expat making a Donald Trump thread or whatever, but wrap yourself in the guise of a mile-long OP about a "video game series" with a bunch of trivial links, and you can live forever.

Generals killed this site. It's just a stagnant circlejerk where nothing is gained. Now you could say you dont gain much fromn the average thread, you would be right. Generals are cancer but what really killed this site was the Catalog. This site used to be for "in the moment" discussion with huge events taking up the entire front page and threads moving quickly and being created all the time but the catalog allows you to easily find a specific thread and keep posting there, it's the reason why generals got so cancerous.

Anime and manga's exotic and international appeal gives it a lot of demographic diversity, compared to something like say, American comic books where you'd have something like, in the 60s, Stan Lee wanting to make Spider-Man more liberal to appeal to the comic buying audience, and Steve Ditko being a hardcore objectivist(see his other heroes like The Question or Ted Kord) developing Spider-Man with more of his own personal philosophy. (The 60s-style presentation also has the funny effect of making Peter Parker seem more like a proto-school shooter than an awkward but likeable nerd hero).

So compared to say, your average /a/ weeb who would be pretty well-versed in Japanese culture, a lot of anime viewers don't really have much context to a lot of things so are free to project and glean their own personal interpretations from anime. There's a famous one about RZA discussing cultural parallels between Dragonball and the story of the black man in America.

So weebs comes in all colors.

It's like if you look at the Sonic the Hedgehog fandom, it somehow encompasses both a hilarious variety of sexual identities, and also the hardcore Christian right.

>4chan in general tends to be anti-popular
But this is utter bullshit.
People just use this hipster excuse to wave away views they dislike. Look at /v/ for example, it's not hipster. It loves shit like Dark Souls, which I would argue is overrated. Tastes in best games generally go back to classic stuff like Deus Ex. It's not anti popular, it's just that the main audience dont give a fuck. You cna find places like RpGCodex who will have similar views to /v/ on games.

Look at /a/, CCS wasnt unpopular it got CLAMP rich as fuck iirc. GiTS is very entry level and popular, we now have Naruto threads, and K-on was insanely popular at one point.

/mu/ and /lit/ can be pretentious as fuck however. Which honestly isnt a bad thing, if /a/ kept up it's elitism it wouldnt be so shit.

/pol/ weebs are actually pretty cool. Their favourite anime was LoHG. Also they use the Nazi viewpoint of Japs, to consider them on par with whites.

The thing I found funny about /pol/ was it was more diverse than any SJW communities I have seen. I stopped with /pol/ ages ago, but they had blacks, hispanics, asians, whites, gays, etc.
Apparently there is now a Japanese nun there, who shitposts from the vatican. /pol/ also liked various figures that people would assume they would hate for being non white. They loved Thomas Sowell.

I think stormfags were the minority, and it was less about race and more about your personal beliefs, /pol/ is what Martin Luther King dreamed of, a place where blacks, mexicans, whites and asians would all gather under one banner, united against liberals, feminism, islam and Soros.

Good, that's all the less swarming newfags flooding the place with their cancerous posts. Being smaller is a good thing. 4chan as a whole has decreased in user population over the past years, and while we may like to bitch about the quality of the site as-is, imagine how much worse it could be with thousands more newfags streaming in than already are. With the exception of discussion speed (which some could argue is better on the slower end, too), smaller almost always means better for an internet community.

If you guys are wondering why /pol/ is so popular on an anime website, it's because /pol/ is mostly disillusioned young adults who are alienated from society and have had their future taken away from them by a system rigged to their disadvantage, so they often dream of living in an idealistic world.

Which is exactly the demographic which likes anime.

Don't be silly, the Anime industry has always been terrible even in the so called golden age, it only seemed good because we only got the good stuff dubbed or on crappy VHS. Anime has always been a cancer, it is amazing /a/ is as good as it is in comparison to other Anime communities.

And old topics rarely survive, every other board complains we only talk about seasonal things because we can't really talk about old anime except for the odd remember this anime thread.
