Also, various movements within the Japanese cluster have taken place recently; OsoKara got incredibly popular thanks to episode 24 and AtsuhiTotty is far more popular now as well, enjoying significant popularity due to theories such as Atsuhi being related to Tougou and such. Official illustrations play a massive role in determining what's currently popular as well. Usually I don't care so much but the autistic side of me is actually pretty stupidly offended that the most popular ship in the fandom by a
long shot and all it's interpretations is based off of a single interaction in the second episode and runs contrary to what their characters actually ended up being like.
Don't get me wrong, people can ship whoever they like and however they like since shipping is all in fun anyway but as a fan of both

I also think that it might have been down to the fact that there was no obvious pairing for him if you go purely by fan favorites. With fanmade goods sold through places like Booth and Tora along with general paired up art on Pixiv there was always this pair the spares situation with him and Juice which just never seemed to work, since that pairing isn't that popular in the first place. Oh its not just the rapiness of IchiKara that turned me off, even now that things have gotten lighter Kara is still shy, demure, and weirdly feminine which is simply not Karamatsu(from what I've seen).
And same for Ichimatsu, when he's not a rapist he's just...odd.
I also have problems with Kara bottoming and Ichi topping in general because it disagrees with their characterization (at least from what I've seen and understand about them) but that's another can of worms.
It seems nice to be able to enjoy everything, but its not really possible for me.
