People want depth to Beatrix because she's a very attractive character with an interesting design, but she really is a flat character doing shit for the evulz. Beatrix's whole character seems to be designed around the contrast of her stunning good looks vs her repulsive inner self. The novel states that she is by far the most attractive woman around, while at the same time not holding any punches when it comes to portraying her evil. Axmann really is out just for himself while Beatrix is innately evil, and can't help but do evil. Axmann isn't as bad when you think about it.

That's what they say. But then his comments on the story make it hard to believe. If he really did say that Beatrix's primary attribute is loyalty then the interpretation that everything she does is out of evil is incorrect. But that interpretation is quite solid, especially in the anime.

The story has gaps and holes in it because most of the characters don't know what is true and what is false. The holes serve as reflections for Theo, Katia, Beatrix, and the others to bounce themselves off of and show there nature through their interpretation of events. These interpretations may be right, or maybe wrong. Theo, for instances, didn't know that Sylwia and Walter were in a relationship and dismissed all the hints, so when it was revealed that they were sleeping with one another, it came not only as as shock to Theo, but the audience as well.
Something else to note is that Iris was also manipulating Theo. Of course, Theo never really caught on, but certain actions Iris takes were designed to bind him closer to her cause (such as giving him Katia knowing that he'll see her as Lise's replacement). Everyone manipulates everyone, except for poor Theo who sees the world in shades of black and white.

The Hind A is worse then the Hind D and there is no reason to produce Hind A in the year 1983 when you have for years had access to the Hind D.
I dont really understand why the fuck tards behind schwarzesmarken thinks the NVA would operate Hind A when they operated Hind D and most factories were producing Hind D and there is no reason to produce Hind A when the Hind D is out and the factories are retooling for the Hind D in the years the factories were safe (production started in 1973 in real life but it may have started earlier since we see the Hind E in 1973 when it actually got produced in 1976).
And the Hind A we see in the LN is exactly the same as the Hind A in real life.

The part of the LN that is translated which you can download describes Hind A raining down AT-2 missiles on destroyer class, dumb rockets and so on and also later on mopping up BETA after bombers and arty killing most of them after a lazerjagd.
The Hind D would do better mainly because better gun with 1470 rounds, better gunners station meaning he can peform his duty better and SACLOS missiles meaning he have much higher chance of scoring a hit and needs less training to operate the ATGM at long range.
This is also another proof that the people behind schwarzesmarken dont really understand the equipment that they have the NVA use.

In a sense, this was the perfect kind of background for this kind of story, one where unreliable narrator really defines and sets a lot of things in motion. If Beatrix is to be Irisdina's rival and to be a contrasting figure to her, the flat characterisation ruins it. This is the angle, that at least I follow. The whole only beautiful on the outside cannot be contrasted with beautiful both on the outside and on the inside, even if Beatrix is supposed to be the hotter of the two, because it would make one clearly superior to the other. The claim that the contrast is about methods and morals, is far better. Irisdina sticks to her Ideals and morals, and does no evil after killing her brother and helps hold the line herself. Beatrix throws everything but her loyalty to Jurgen's dream, which I will assume is holding the line, and dirties her hands in order to have the power to change the fact tat her job slowly saps away the DDRs strength.
So in short, its about if the means justify the end or not.

Not necessarily. You wouldn't have the lust factor, but depending on how charismatic they kept him, he'd still have a ton of fans. He'd be like Ketchup was before episode 08 happened (and there was a lot of Ketchup love until Lise's past was revealed). In an odd sort of way, he might even be less hated (but not as loved) if he took Beatrix's role.

I think the story itself states that Iris is the superior of the two in the end. Her ideals were the ones which one out, and the story takes every opportunity possible to point out how right about everything she isgranted, most of it is Theo.

Axmann was fairly popular as the reasonable, slimy but still "good" stasi by anime watchers until Lise's reveal. I knew some people even thought that he'd get a redemption arc before the end.

The civil war would still happen, but it wouldn't of been as huge. Beatrix would have taken power after crushing Suzy's insurrection and locked Iris away to forever gloat at her. As for the rest of the 666th, who knows. Pham and Walter would definitely have been taken in. The others weren't really in Iris's inner circle, so they might be able to squeeze out. Theo would definitely go stasi with Lise though.

Their combat experience was presumably mostly in fighting defecting TSF units.
That said, the Werewolves picked pilots who were talented, and then trained them well. Well trained and talented fighters are still extremely dangerous when even if they don't have much combat experience.
Also the fact that their logistical infrastructure can't handle fighting day in and day out for weeks on end, doesn't really implicate the pilots' skill.
Also responding to an earlier point, the fact that Beatrix knew Lise would betray the Werewolves and feed her false information, and Lise uses her own resources to get the correct intelligence, doesn't make the Werewolves a mean girl squadron, it just means Beatrix knows that ultimately, Lise's heart belongs to her brother.

I have to ask how Beatrix ended up so evil. Some people like to say that she was always evil or that she doesn't need a reason to be evil (and may even add "Stop thinking with your dick" afterwards). I'd be able to get behind this if not for the prequel. Knowing what we know about BiS Beatrix, that explanation of pointless evil seems more and more retarded. So what fucked her up so badly? Has Hiroki written himself into a corner or something?
Also, why even expand upon a character who was just a simple, unnuanced, " one-note villain in the original novels". Wouldn't someone else like Walter have been more deserving of a backstory? I don't get it.

That point doesn't make a lot of sense. Why would Lise give a fuck about where Iris is? Maybe if the person caught was Katia, Lise might care, but Iris; she hated Iris.

You do know that artillery rounds spin? The barrels they are fired from are rifled.

I think it's a bit harder to categorize that that, which is part of the problem.
It would have been done for a utilitarian goal, but the core problem I (and others) have with it is that it was largely pointless. Forcing more people to the front is only going to do as much good as they provide additional fighting power.
And considering that they were already deploying infantrymen into trenches armed with sub-par weaponry (crew-served automatic or don't bother, it seems), and in light of how effective we see those infantrymen not being, the marginal benefit of her plan seems minimal.
Then there's the massive human cost to compare it to.
From a Consequentialist standpoint, its a massive waste of human life.
If the remaining portion of the lives of the people who would have otherwise survived are more useful than their deaths are under her plan (or if their deaths later are more useful), the her plan is waste, which translates to wrong in an extinction war situation.

I think her plan would be feasible with a little bit of modification though. Maybe change it so that all non-essential personnel were evacuated. It'd first, save way more people, and two, it would restore the moral of the army. As for the supply issues, some of that could be alleviated with support from the West, which was something she was going to take advantage of anyways in the LN. It's heavily implied throughout that she's a puppet of the UN/West (the first people she contacts after killing Schmidt are the UN and the Western powers). Her final speech to the Werewolves in their hangar before they went out to fight the rebels in their final batlle (something the anime really should have left in) referenced joining with the UN and Western powers to remake the DDR:

As bad as her plan was, it's not like the others were any better. Iris would refuse international help as she greatly distrusted the UN and western powers, and Katia wanted a democratic reform and a major political upheavals when the BETA were at their doorsteps. Beatrix's prophecy also turned out to be rather accurate too (just like Lise's concerning Theo), but again, it's debatable how much anyone could have done to stem their grim fate.
We'll see where it falls when Martyrs arrives. Who knows, maybe Beatrix's plans will be elaborated upon and they'll be as reasonable (or unreasonable) as everyone else, or maybe she'll be full of shit.
