Why have the battle royale? It's already well described in the novel, and don't really involve the characters that have been main in Railgun.
Even things that involve the Railgun cast but were already described in the novel are skipped, like volumes 8, 12 and 13.

Look at the daihaseisai for railgun, it had an original story while still capturing the atmosphere of it's index story the day before. The battle royale could have gotten an original story too, explaining what mikoto was doing that day. We could also have gotten a POV for frenda because we literally have no idea what she did outside of second-hand accounts. Kamachi is intent on pushing her and involving her again and again, why not settle things and give us that POV? They even made her friends with Saten, that's 3/4 of the railgun girls ready to go including Uiharu.
Not to mention how pointless it was to have Member play a role in Daihaseisai and introduce Sschool, even giving backstory and a name to Yobou/Goggles if they weren't going to do something with it. At this point, literally all they can do is involve the girl in the dress again but I doubt they're even capable of doing that. It's just really disappointing that one of the best parts of the series gets the cold shoulder like that.

Railgun is being used less as an adaptation, and more like complementary /side story material. Scenes with those characters are there just to show us another side of them not shown in the novel, but while still expecting you to read the novel to get the full story.

They showed a full arc for Daihaseisai, focused on the Railgun (hence the title) and it's expected that they would show a full arc for Battle Royale. Especially considering they introduced everyone in it just before getting to that point.

How is it "baseless hopes" when all of this stuff should have come together in what >>140610139 described? There is almost no defending skipping the battle royale. The only other counterpoint might be the violence, but that can certainly be worked around considering the only severe part we know happened with frenda was at her very end. Even then, railgun always had a level of violence that also showed up in the daihaseisai.

I'm not saying it's expected they show Battle Royale in its entirety, with Accel and Mugino's fights and Uiharu getting BTFO by Kakine. Just a different side of it, one with Misaka and whatever she was up to. The several chapters around Frenda and sniper-chan easily provided a background for that to be the setting of the next arc. But instead of that they just pull a timeskip over the entire damn thing
