So I just finished Log Horizon, and overall liked it. The setting was ok, the plot was kinda light-hearted but interesting, the protagonist wasn't some stereotypical high school kid that has to "grow" and "mature" in the course of the series to find his "true strength" or whatever other bs shounen cliche, but one thing made me cringe over and over.
Why did whoever made this feel the need to make everyone praise the protagonist 10 times per episode? I could not stop cringing every time it happened. And all of that of course praising trivial stuff, that is really not such a big fucking deal anyway. I specifically remember this point where some character was amazed how he could track the mana of 24 people... like really? What a fucking achievement.I mean an average wow player with 1+ year under his belt can probably do that. Does the author not know anything about mmos? Or what's supposed to be considered impressive?
Why does the author feel the need to do this? I understand this was a LN adaptation so I'm guessing it's the case there as well. And while the character has a sympathetic personality, all the cock sucking from the supporting characters really makes him cringy.

Yeah, fuck off. I was a WoW addict back in the day, doing 40-man raids. Realistically, most people can really only keep track of their own mana bar, while they're busy with a fight. Someone might kind of keep tabs on the healers mana bars, but maintaining a good awareness of a couple of dozen mana bars while actively fighting is a fucking achievement.

The series is dead after the anime covered vol 9 before vol 9 even came out. NotTifa turned out to be a milf completely crushing the potential love triangles and Ninja Turtle pretty much is unstoppable given his infinite damage combo.
There's just not much to 'solve' other than finding a way back home which in itself is boring.
Shiro also amusingly isn't all that smart when you compare him to Maou or Ainz.

He could do that because in Elder Tale you can see that Shiro doesn't cast something every fucking second. He's just standing around watching bars but not pressing buttons, so he has no cool downs of his own to keep an eye on.
He also delegated all the boss cool downs to others to keep track of.
Log Horizon suffers from the same problem that most MMO LN do, which is talking is a free action and heavily abuses this. When it's shown in anime form it looks retarded because there's too much off screen doing nuffin and way too much yapping between actions.
Ironically enough SAO is probably the only MMO LN to adapt properly to anime because casting took a back seat and basically anyone who casted could be taken down like a little bitch, the majority of fighting was melee like how Asuna even went sword waifu mode when she was on her healer alt. Basically SAO actually kept note of how casting takes actual fucking time, especially when you gotta pronounce the god damn thing instead of having the sparkles just pop up near you.
Which is hilarious cause everyone shits on SAO for everything else, but it at least got one thing right, outside it's own source medium.

The intensity was in how things could escalate. They couldn't die, but problems kept occurring and they weren't in control for very long at any point which threatened to turn them back into Africa Online.
But as of the end of the anime, everything is fine and dandy, most of the character relationships are pretty much 'solved' and there's nothing much going for it. Shiro's reunion with Kanami was a big thing most readers looked forward to and it was a huge letdown, kinda like Yuusha getting shot with guns. It's not even the outcome that was bad, but the fact that Kanami's new tea party kinda just off screened their side of the adventure ruins the parallel whereas in S2 we had the damn parallel with Akatsuki and Shiro splitting up, and god damn did it suck with William hogging up 20 whole minutes crying.

There's only 3 fucking jobs, the rest are derivative of each: Tank, DPS, Heals. Don't say CC, because DPS usually handle, and even other jobs can pitch in. I did as main tank quite often do small CC's to help the main CC'ers where I could..
Also if you've never played other classes or at least led successful full raids then shut your casul mouth. I lead my guild as a tank and as a DPS. DPS was far easier.
Either way, even though I could grab a PUG and do great, I still was not shit without my team, and neither were you.

It was definitely possible, because unlike real MMOs whenever someone used a skill or casted a spell they had to ignore the laws of physics and fucking SHOUT IT OUT before it even activates so you kinda had plenty of time to mentally take note in your head. That's why he doesn't do ANYTHING but stare at bars and status. The amount of times he casted a spell during raids is less than the amount of times a boss used a special move and his main direct contribution to battle is mainly just being a giant mana battery which doesn't take any attention after he uses it.
It's actually quite possible given how slow paced the action in Elder Tale is. Only by fighting the likes of Akatsuki with clones / Kanami / Turtle Power would you be pressed for time. Just look at fucking Krusty, every time he swung his axe it was like old school Arcanite Reaper 3.8 second swing time.

In abyssea random treasure chests would spawn in the middle of nowhere (without any players around) with a 99% chance of it being a mimic whether or not you were trying to pick the lock. what a nice coincidence, I semi-marathoned through the two seasons in the past couple weeks, and finished yesterday evening.
Didn't pay any attention to it when they were airing, besides seeing a few "DATABASE WOWOO" threads on catalog. Just the MMO-themes kinda pushed me away at the time.
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised, and very entertained.

What? Having just finished it too, you're exaggerating. In most cases, it's simply a clear sign of respect for someone who, by now, is pretty clearly established to be the greatest JP raid leader of all time (both pre and post apocalypse) and the guy who created one hell of a functional society within a single year. Self-insert or not, the praise is warranted. You might just have overly high standards and rarely praise people whenever they do something good.
The only issue is that Shiroe himself doesn't publicly praise others too easily, and even that fits his character well.

Think about it from a relative standpoint. Japanese MMO players, for the most part, are nowhere near as good as EU or US ones. Their MMOs are also not as similar in nature to ours as you'd think. This merely establishes brilliance on a low enough level in order to more easily allow for the introduction of even more brilliant events in the future. It's a remarkably simple, yet effective way of keeping the equivalent of power levels in check.
