Yes, that's right. This is why Basara is trying to follow Minmay's steps, her soul and whole being belongs to the music, and she loves that. It wasn't that she had her songs because she lost Hikaru, but that the songs were her true love all along. She loved to sing, and Hikaru was just a phase for her to bond with people outside of music and grow up seeing other horizons, same with her understanding and relationship with Misa. She didn't have romantic feelings for Hikaru beyond infatuation of being in love with someone. She didn't have self-awareness to realize the "depth" of her feelings. Hikaru did and they were stronger or as strong as his feelings for Misa's, but he knew that she'll never be his. They would have made themselves unhappy, because both would have been together while her heart pined and longed for something else.
It wasn't a traditional triangle between two girls and a boy choosing who he loved the most, but a boy choosing the girl who actually he has a future with. It was less about romance and more about maturity for the three characters. It's very unlikely Minmay would have stayed with Hikaru even if she was chosen, it would mean the end of her career (specially in SDFM) that only relied on Hikaru when she was having a fall off with her idol persona (and she only hooked up with Kaifun earlier because it was convenient in her job because he was a supporting manager at the time. She wasn't even sure about her feelings: "I guess I like Kaifun"). In the movie, it's the same, it was all about Minmay needed to get over her childish phase to grow out from idol to legitimate star.

So guys, I've been constantly listening to the songs that we know from macross delta thus far.
I'm trying to see if there is any hidden clues in the lyrics or the way it is being sung.
I've posted some of this info before but I'll add new stuff.
So basically, the synchronization of Freyja and Mikumo are amazing. I'm not sure which girl was hired first but when they casted the other lead singer they most definitely had the other one in mind. Ranka and Sheryl can't even compete, the harmony of Freyja and Mikumo's voice is just simple awesome.
What's even more interesting about Freyja and Mikumo's harmonization is there ability to match each others pitch. I don't know if you guys noticed, but take note of it. While both girls have a unique voice on their own, they are able to compliment each other. Freyja's voice is soft and smooth, yet Mikumo is able to also match her soft tone. Mikumo's voice is powerful and fierce, yet Freyja is also able to strengthen her voice to match Mikumo's. I THINK THIS IS VERY CRUCIAL TO THE THEME OF EVERYONE COMING TOGETHER. What's even more amazing is when the girls sing at the same time, it's as if two people aren't singing but only one.
The song you hear this mostly with is Koi Halation The War and the opening song.
I think the biggest plot point involves Freyja. I honestly think there is going to be a Madoka/Hamura thing going on. A constant theme through their songs is death and rebirth, but I'll save that for another post.

I think DYRL is honestly a masterpiece and the best Macross product. It cuts out the annoying bullshit from the show and replaces it with Protoculture lore. The triangle is done a lot better because it's a movie and honestly the characters are likable. I think this along with it's god-tier animation makes it great. It's something I like for it being itself and not just because it had a lot of mecha porn in it.
I do miss the Zentraedi shenanigans and Max/Millia's subplot is rushed but those are my biggest faults. It's just very good.

They were 2 extremely skilled enemies, they were representatives of two different races, cultures and ideologies. Hayate and Mirage are like complete opposite of it. Mirage is going the typical path of clasiical modern tsundere.
Max and Milia scenario is still possible in Delta. But with Mirage being Max and one of Pretty Knight boys being Milia.

The folding in SDF and and DYRL was pretty basic and not all that interesting.
I like way folding looks in Frontier and Delta. It's pretty, and you wouldn't get great little scenes like when the battle fleet was folding away to assist the Galaxy.

I think it's more of an issue of how modern anime are written. Usually comedy is kind of shoe-horned in, there's specific moments that are meant to be comedic so it comes off as unnatural where in many older anime the comedy usually flowed from the situation (not to say that old anime didn't have it's share of forced comedy). I think it's a symptom of modern anime writers and directors not being as well-versed in the classic film techniques that the older generation was.

It's not really a problem you can fix, you actually have the same problem in the west with TV and Hollywood, many younger directors and writers don't have a good grasp on what made the classics great, which, combined with the general corporate attitude surrounding movies and TV, leads to a lot of mishandling. Regarding Delta's love triangle, I wonder if this time one of the themes will be love getting in the way of team work. It's clear Freyja and Hayate are very in sync, and if the OP is any indication I think we can expect the same to happen to Hayate and Mirage during the first half.
