It's definitely Future Trunks and not Cell. After Toyotaro's comment, Toriyama goes on to say that it's a really popular character and he hopes the kids watching will be happy to see pop up.
Of course someone here will try to be "funny" by saying that could still be Cell, but logically, it has to be Trunks. Future Trunks is heavily featured in Heroes, so it's something all the kids would get hyped for.

Whis confirmed that Monaka's race is incredibly chill 99% of the time, to an almost absurdity, but if you manage to rile them up somehow then they demonstrate some ability that even Beerus has a hard time dealing with.
Its not that he's a fraud, but we definitely know his ability is strange, and more likely than not Beerus doesn't want others to see it, but he brought it along as a last ditch measure anyway.
He has no real power in his inert form most likely, and his real power is probably incredibly silly, which is why Beerus didn't want others seeing it since he almost lost to that shit in the past.

Not only is Piccolo relevant again, not only are there tons of new characters with potential, not only is Vegeta being his classic ''dangerous prodigy'' archetype again, not only is the tournament about to reach it's climax, but FUCKING FUTURE TRUNKS IS COMING BACK.Well, most likely. The only thing that got retconned is a bit of age differences and most importantly 1 factor that got altered which was Vegeta's reaction to the reincarnation of Buu.
He seemed genuinely surprised hearing it for the first time in the epilogue but now that he heard from Goku in Super, he has to act surprised at the fact that it's actually Uub and not at the fact that he's the incarnation.
This isn't that big of a deal of a retcon, is there anything else worth mentioning that has been altered in the Uub Epilogue I didn't mention?

Like I said previously the manga is becoming more and more established as it's own form of canon, like the Pyramid settings.
The stories are based off Toriyama's manuscripts but the manga has been refined and overseen by Toriyama. This doesn't excuse the abbreviated storytelling they are doing for the somewhat rushed tempo of the manga but it's still canon within it's own Super manga medium.
To argue and say one is canon over the other is like saying the Marvel movie universe is canon and not the one of many comic books that inspired it.

I don't think Toriyama just forgot the sparks though. Gohan consistently didn't have electricity around him after getting his energy drained. Goku and Vegeta both had sparks during their fight, but Gohan didn't when he attack Buu's cocoon, even though both of those things were in the same chapter.
It's possible that having his energy drained had a lasting effect on him, or maybe Kibito didn't give him all of his energy back. It's one of the most curious things in Dragon Ball.
