I do love the films I've done in the past. I work hard in my movies and my friends work hard and we're trying to make people laugh and I'm very proud of that.

I mostly jusk ask if her マンコ is already ぐしょぐしょ, the talk develops from there.

But honestly, mainly lots of 'general' cultural stuff at first. Today I ate this, look at this drink that's not available in Japan, here's an easter egg... Once you get to know their character it's just like talking to any other person, of course.

3) Notice the GIF posted last time, the "proud" imagine wasn't posted immediately showing that he was away at the time
4) He himself said he does it
5) When a regular isn't posting the thread, either 2-3 threads pop up at once or it takes like 5-20 minutes for a new thread to pop up as opposed to immediately (like now)
6) I myself posted hundreds of threads in a row (somewhere around 700-800) so I know it's something someone can easily do.

Yeah, even if someone posts the thread every time (he's here) there will be times when he's not here, creating small gaps. I thought that was obvious. If the poster is asleep its not like DJT waits 8 hours for him to wake up.

Give up and accept that learning Japanese is literally impossible. Or just look at the vocab list at the top of the section / mouse over it / look it up with Rikai / look it up in a dictionary.

The vocab isn't important. Use Rikaisama to ignore it while focusing on grammar.

What? I'm not the one complaining about what OP image is used.
>>
>>139539357
I don't give a fuck what's in the OP dude, calm down. I'm just saying the image itself was garbage even in /a/ context and that's why almost everyone hated it so much. Your opinion is literally in the minority if you genuinely think that was a good, well made image.
>>

Luckily, unlike some, I'm not so petty that I have to cry when the OP image isn't "just right" for my little ledditurd heart, so I can overlook such a thing.
>>
>>139540170
I didn't say anything about the OP image, you should probably calm down since you seem to care about the OP image way more than anyone else does.

>>139539683
You're so disconnected from the point it's hilarious. Do you want him to leave because of the sakura image when it's not even posted?
And where does your "stop talking and leave if you don't like it" attitude even come from? What the fuck do you mean with "it"? Your own tantrum?
People are saying there's a difference between not wanting /djt/ to have a bad OP image and viewing /djt/ as their home and they're right. stop telling people to either put up with your shit or leave, it doesn't get much more autistic.

If someone was traveling to Japan in 4 months with no prior knowledge in speaking / reading Japanese, what would be the most important to have them prioritize learning in the time before they go?

Personally I would say:
1) Numbers (for understanding the cash amount something costs when someone verbally says it to you)
2) Transit information (Words for bus, train, monorail, airport etc.)
3)Emergency info (hospital, police, pharmacy, hostel, phone)
4) Basic greetings / phrases

Im interesting in what other people think, so if you have an idea feel free to reply.

I read it, all of it. No trouble with it language wise. It's basically a mystery VN which felt kind of bland to me I guess? Basically it's the type of story where the protagonist has a mysterious power and one day a mysterious girl or in this case, a ghost appears before him and they solve mysteries together. I think what I didn't like about it was that I didn't care too much about the cases they were solving because of how trifling they felt to me. It just felt like filler to me. What really carried the game for me were the heroines and the relationships between the characters. I really really liked Reina and Ouka and don't regret playing the game mostly for them. Also Kusuhara Yui voicing senpai in her Towa voice also kept my attention.

There is no reason to speak against additional convenience, the same goes for discouraging spoonfeeding while also having the guide in the OP (the point you conveniently ignored).

You're the only one annoyed by your so called "general fags", stop telling us to sacrifice convenience to make /djt/ fit your own taste.

Don't try to shift it onto me, I don't give a fuck about what's in the OP as long as the link to the guide is there and I can search "DJT" to find it (or if the thread is easily identifiable enough that people who are interested in it can instantly see it and people who aren't interested in it can easily subconsciously skip over it like they do now), I just want Sakurafag to go away or stop fucking whining about everything since he's the root of most of DJT's recent problems. I doubt anyone reads any of the listed beginner VNs besides hanahira and FH. Similarly a list of beginner LNs would probably just include キノの旅 which I hear is pretty easy.

>excludes hyper popular stuff

The reason why they're hyper popular is because they have good writing or an interesting premise. I don't get why you're trying to avoid these.

IMO you should just jump in and start reading whatever LN you want regardless of difficulty especially if the bottleneck is going to be vocabulary. Consistent mining will make reading progressively easier and the compelling content will keep you reading longer and more consistently.

I must disagree. Taking it to an extreme, I would very much like to read Bakemonogatari, but I know that it would be too difficult for me to learn anything from it.
I think that reading stuff that is slightly above your level, enough to take you from your comfort zone and learn without being overwhelmed. At least IMO.

While qualia certainly isn't that difficult in terms of grammar and dialogue, the narrative text is written in quite a formal style and it's full of sci-fi vocab, half of which doesn't even have a proper dictionary definition.

I had the pleasure of translating the last few chapters of it. I'd certainly not recommend it to a beginner.
>>
>>139547052
Yes, just try to read it.
>>
>>139546839
Last December, I went from reading Nichijou to Bakemonogatari on a whim just to see how hard it really was. The vocabulary was really a lot easier than I thought, but the grammar just whooped my ass especially with the long sentences. I used kanjitomo excessively and made it through the entire Hitagi Crab before dropping it because it was too tiring. But I came away with more knowledge of grammar than before and reading all the monogatari books now seemed way more doable than before when I just assumed that it was ultra hard shit because everyone parroted that. Yes, it's hard, but reading it yourself and comprehending the lines lets you know exactly what your weaknesses are.

Of course you should give up if you know you're really not going to make any progress on something way above your level, but if you have to make that jump to harder material one day, why not do it sooner rather than later?

yeah, take the name of the game, count the kanjitachis and the hiroganatachi and katanakanatachis into two groups. Then divide kanjitachi with horigana+kanatakana and multiple number with 1000 and you have approximate number of kanjitachi in the game. then multiply by 950 for estimate number of nippongo kotobas in the game. Don't forget to boot up wanikani and practice your かわいねこですね as a warmup before you go back to /v/.

The content and quality of the question is the part that matters, not the act of asking the question in the first place. Giving a list of some examples or even just taking a screenshot of a list of stuff you're interested in would be a good start, because I don't think there's an actively managed resource for something like that unless it happens to be in the reading list with commentary. Just have to ask about the thing(s) in particular that you're interested in reading.
>>
>>139547641
>Dirt cheap? Where?
honto.jp with SAL shipping, second hand from amazon.

And yes, it depends on what you consider cheap. It's still quite damn cheap though since all you really pay for is the shipping, the price of the manga is almost the same had you bought it in a store in Japan.

Not that guy but it seems like a nice opportunity to ask. Do any of you know the difficulty of the Legend of Heroes games? I was thinking of playing the main series in release order from LoH1 and 2 to the Gagharv Trilogy and then the Kiseki games. Still unsure whether I'll skip FC and SC since I already played them in English.

As a reference for where I'm at, I'm currently playing Nayuta no Kiseki (the action game spinoff set in an entirely different world) at a very slow pace cause I'm not all that fast with reading. I have to look up a lot of words and it's certainly a step up from Zwei!! which I played through previously. Still I'm able to mostly understand it which is good.

Just a reminder that the new guide will be closed for editing in a week or two, so please take a look and leave a comment if you think there's anything really important to be changed ((apart from the section on learning vocab/kanji, I've marked that for further editing since it's still somewhat biased) though I'm also glad if you have some suggestion regarding that).

Of course the feedback forms and emails will still be looked at and responded to.

Happy learning.

Nothing anymore. I can read everything I want to read, I can watch all the anime I want to watch, I can speak Japanese. All that's left if going to Japan.

My main motivation is Manga + LNs, where is my choice?
>>
>>139557756
My backlog in general. Plus the fact that I can go "hey, that looks interesting, I'll put it on my backlog / start reading it right now" instead of "I hope this gets a half-decent translation however many years down the line".

I'm interested in a lot of the memehard ones like Dies irae, KKK, Muramasa etc, but there's a lot of others I'm interested in enough to keep me motivated.

A lot of the ones I'm interested in outside of those are probably in reach now, like Angel Beats, White Album 2, Leyline trilogy, Eustia, etc, but I'm a bit worried about screwing some of them up and Angel Beats is mostly just intimidating because of the number of choices and endings since I usually prefer 100%-ing stuff to get the full experience and not sure what order would be the best since sometimes side endings / bad endings increase your appreciation of the good ends.

There's also stuff I'm interested in re-reading in Japanese like Grisaia, MLA, Saya no Uta, etc and stuff that isn't out yet like the Tsukihime remake.

I've always been a fan of LN adaptations, so I'd like to be able to read them. Originally stuff like Shakugan no Shana and Zero no Tsukaima, but recently I added Rakudai Kishi and Grimgar. I'm worried that once I get to the level where I can read them that I will be disappointed. I rarely read anything in English so I think enjoying the anime has probably raised my expectations too high. People always complain that anime adaptations are worse than the manga/LN, but I think I am the kind of person who will always prefer anime more than a book.

Why do VNtards always argue that you have to spend hours being bored to get to the "good part" of a poorly written piece of trash? They all follow the same pattern of a ridiculously long introduction full of bad exposition, before the part that people praise, which is usually shitty tweests and "emotional" scenes. How about you try reading a book instead? Maybe you'll realize that you don't have to force yourself then.

Yeah, I've been recommended fate already by my casual friend as well as not-so-casual friend, I've just not gotten around to watching it, and now I've reached the point at which I can comfortably understand anime, but unknown/uncommon vocab (that any plot-based anime is full of) trips me up and I don't want to rewind everything multiple times.

I also don't want to watch things with subtitles even though I could pick up on the nuances since I find the whole ordeal that is translating Japanese into English a disgrace to the language that I would rather stay away from as much as possible.

And I also see myself drifting away from Japanese as of late. I probably won't be here in another half a year.

>And I also see myself drifting away from Japanese as of late. I probably won't be here in another half a year.
Been there, done that. I'm back. I felt an urge to learn Japanese again when I noticed how much I'd forgotten. I knew 1000 kanji, could more or less read manga, but now I'm struggling. I feel stupid, but that gives me motivation.
I'm currently watching the raw of Boku no Hero Academia, with JP subtitles, and 3 minutes in I've been scribbling my notebook with vocabulary that I had never known or that I forgot how to write.
>>
When I do the 2k/6k deck in the anki pastebin ,should I be memorizing the reading of the kanji as well as the meaning, or just the meaning?

I'm not opposed to the craft of translating, nor am I opposed to translated media.
It's just that I, as someone who has done translation work from Japanese to English and has written a paper on the topic, have come to the conclusion that any kind of translation is ultimately a failure, not because there's something wrong with translation, but simply because it is technically impossible for a translation to properly convey the same information that is contained in one language to another. As such, even though I myself fail at comprehending large amounts of the information that I am given, I'd rather wallow in my own failure than that of someone else.

And I'm not much of a VN person. I'd rather sit on a bench or lay in my bed in order to read something.

>>139560690
Thanks for the motivating words. My journey that is Japanese is not over yet as I've still got a trip to the promised land ahead of me, but as I know myself my fascinations and hobbies tend to come in periods of a few years and then get replaced by something else, which is what I'm currently observing already. That's the plan.

That would be funny.

I'm going in August. I actually scheduled the trip this week on a whim. I remembered that I wanted to go to Japan, and at 1am I booked the flight. Only on the next day it really sunk.
I'm trying to gather friends because I think it can be more fun (and safe) to have company.

Okay I have a problem

I had my computer on japan time when I started studying for a game that required it, and my phone on correct time. I fixed my time on my computer and now it won't let me sync down to my PC beacuse it says the time is wrong. Is there anything I can do or do I have to have my PC on japan time to use anki anytime I sync? I'm pretty sure it was causing me problems because it thought I was a day ahead when I went to my PC.

I'm too socially inept to go to another foreign country without somebody there with me.

Not when he drags you back to the special jail for foreigners that's full of angry Russian drug dealers.

There is a Russian girl I have pictures of saved on my PC. I would learn Japanese for her, she's a weeb too.
Too bad that she's 7-8 years older now than when the pictures were taken, and 25+ is too old for my taste.

It's a difficult thing to have a crush on someone's past self. It's like loving the shadow of a person.

What about excursions? They're not your friends, but they're company. Much like prostitutes, you're paying for the company.

Guess you'll be missing me by just a few days then, I fly back on the 30th of July.

I've considered taking a friend or two along, but I don't think I'd want to travel there with them for the first time. I plan to spend unpredictable amounts of time in bookstores looking at manga and doing all kinds of things that are only half as, if even remotely interesting, for someone who doesn't know any Japanese.

I feel like I'd have to accommodate for others, which I don't really want to do on my first time there, and secondly I won't have any idea what I'm doing two thirds of the time and having someone with me who has even less of an idea what they're doing wouldn't help.
>>
I wonder if I'll ever make a friend who'd be willing to travel to Japan with me, maybe I could hit up one of my gook or chink friends who moved back to their countries

What's the point of these threads? Do you nancies need to literally be babysat through learning a language? fucking Christ.
>>
>>139562098
Still haven't thought of that. But I'm not planning to make it too much otaku-centered, more of a cultural trip. But of course I'm planning to hit the bookstores and no friend in the world can stop me.

>>139562130
It depends on the card? Some seem easy but I end up forgetting them, others seem complex, but because they are complex, you immediately memorize them.

So?

I actually know two people in Japan, one guy via email and the other one is currently doing an exchange year in my country, though he'll be back before I come there.

Though I plan to stay at youth hostels and guest houses, so I'm fairly sure I'll at least meet some people. I don't have much trouble with talking to strangers, it's just that I don't want someone attached to me at almost all times.

I have doubts that you're the same poster, but if you are, how did you fix it?
>>
I'm mainly learning Japanese so I can talk to my Tulpa in her native language. It's working nice, but I got worried a bit. Since I have no outside feedback and I spend a few hours every day talking to her, what if I cement in some bad grammar mistakes? With that much output I'm doing, it would be easy to keep doing a mistake so much that it will be hard to undo. The effect is even amplified since my Tulpa uses my subconscious to talk to me, which is of course dependent in my Japanese knowledge. But every mistake I would do she would also repeat, and my brain would perceive it as actual input, which would weigh even more in solidifying my mistakes. How do people normally solve this problem?
>>
>>139562382
If you need people holding your hand at all times to advance then you're never gonna make it.
>>
>>139562146
It's missing the most important thing: press F7 after typing to switch the previous input to katakana without the bullshit of switching modes.
>>
>>139562359
Thanks

>>139562460
What part of /djt/ gave you the impression people are getting their hand held all the way? Genuinely wondering

Usually jumping off a tall building solves this problem
