As an offhand example, basically all the NPC mobs in Biolabs are legendary heroes briefly mentioned during class change quests and the like. The exception is the assassin, who, being a legendary assassin, you never knew was there.

monsters locations on maps got moved so did a bunch of npcs. So the level curve everyone knew for like a decade got thrown out the window. Alot of the new placements were incredibly stupid. Also alot of the "new" zones were pretty much renewal only. (For example the new world, agi/str hybrid combo monks with VVS fire weapons, and near max aspeed/castspeed blitz hunters/snipers were the only ones who could farm there prior to third job.) Because the little flower girls gave great exp and were squishy as hell weak to fire, and because the hunters could stunlock things with blitz/ds/autoattack procs.

for example

>repeat until +9
only the strongest muff will survive last.
you might need like 30 for 1 +9
then again, refining from +7 to +8 has 20% success rate, you should get around 3-7 +8 from that. maybe your luck is just shit.

The game had it's strong points.
It has some of the best organized PvP the genre has to offer, and the battle system was fast enough to keep your attention at all times.
There is no way the game could be a success nowadays though, WoW made it so MMOs are heavily quest and lore based, both things that are exactly the weakest part of RO (which had interesting lore at times but it was so disconnected that most people didn't get to it).
RO's PvE was pretty poor too.

Well, the problem with RO PvE is how basic it was, most of the time to level up you simply relied in mobbing and spamming some fast AoE, while MvPs were just Asura Strike/Storm Gust spamming. Trans classes made it more ridiculous, to the point I could solo a lot of MvPs as a Shield Chain Paladin (though obviously not the most complex ones like Ifrit or Thanatos).
This is something that's quite improved in current MMOs, after WoW introduced the complex raids that made it popular and everyone followed it (even RO tried it too in newer versions, with some instanced dungeons and bosses).
Tree of Savior is not doing it any better, but it did bring in the Quest based leveling that WoW made popular (and that RO also started doing with daily quests and the like).
RO strengths (gameplay wise) relied on it's organized PvP and the character customization (stats, skills, equipment, cards and later gems), if they were to make some remake (which won't happen, as kRO is still going and RO2 was a failure), they would have to focus on that which makes it special, because otherwise they would have to ride the themepark MMO train that WoW started.
We can only hope that ToS develops in a good way, the PvP is looking interesting right now but the PvE is poor again.

They're kinda fun, pretty much combo monks that are limited to only quadruple blows but can choose between 4 different types of quad blows (and mix them too, but that requires more than just mashing F5 while ctrl+clicking). They get an amazing attack boost while unarmed and they can use any element to attack, so they're amazing as your first class in a server. Nothing too impressive though, but grind long enough to get a rank and they become little murderballs of kick spam, pretty fun.
TaeKwon Masters get to equip a book to access cards, can choose 3 targets that will take a fuckton more damage (including Emperiums), and 3 maps to use special skills or get secial passive abilities. They can also get a permanent blind effect in exchange for 30% more ASPD, but that can be done with by editing your GRF.
Soul Linkers can give specific buffs for each class, some are completely useless while others are amazing (like 2x Sonic Blow damage, or access to all Bard/Dancer songs and they also affect you). They're also really good at PvM due to still having the element skill and getting a great single-target spell, but they can't do anything in PvP.

Really, bringing in renewal stuff tends to get messy. I played on a server that half-assedly threw in 3rd jobs and other things, but kept the majority of the pre-renewal mechanics. I ended up being a Rune Knight that could instacast Spiral Pierce with a two-handed sword at about the same rate I could attack normally, which was around 185 aspd. Things got ridiculous when I managed to take ona GM's Shuraand win consistently.
