At this point it should be clear that the series isn't about "muh artistic plot twists", "muh attack on titan" - it's about some friends getting into some cool fights, being pals and throwing in some fanservice for spice. It's a shounen and proud of it - unlike Naruto which tried to do the whole artistic bullshit and just wound up looking stupid as fuck.

This. Fairy Tail is one of the worst shonen's in terms of how badly they do all three of those. Sure, the side characters get names, but they're not really developed outside of a couple. The power of friendship is so fucking overdone that My Little Pony is calling horseshit. And the battles with the villains are pretty much just waiting until Erza or Nasu beats the crap out of them.

Honestly, I didn't have much of an issue with it until the Fairy Festival. That's when everything went to shit.
Natsu started winning fights on friendship and will alone instead of strategy or even sheer dumb luck. Jellal got reintroduced into the story and Erza's character took a nosedive with him. The fanservice got cranked up to 11. And worst of all the forgiveness got out of hand. The fact that they let the Thunder Legion get off so easy for almost destroying a city and killing everyone for no good reason was utter bullshit. Laxus should have either been in jail or dead.
