This. Also I'm pretty sure ~てなんだ is basically a weaker, more indirect version of てだめだ/てはだめだ. So, translating a bit liberally, it means "We shouldn't do (whatever) unrestrained", or something to that effect.

I'm tired of learning Japanese so I have a plan. I'm going to stop intensive reading. I'm going to let my mining deck run out of new cards, then I'll just do reviews. Meanwhile, I'll pick Core2k/6k back up and finish the final 4000 words I skipped last time I did it. I see no flaws in this plan.

You really should be learning them in the context of words (the compounds on that wallpaper you post), preferably with the word being used in a sentence.

Site, area, place, location all have very similar meanings for example, but aren't always interchangeable, and might sound weird in certain situations.

I don't know of a specific wallpaper pack to download, but I have a few kanji list dumps if you want to make your own.

Motivation is a crutch and a temporary high. If you depend on motivation in order to do something then you will never accomplish any significant long-term goal. Willpower, a good work ethic, and developing a routine of studying/working towards your goal is what yields results. Needing to feel constantly motivated will work in the beginning, but that's about it.

Put this on the poster instead:
Listen here punk, you have a choice. Do the work, or don't. Laziness and procrastination are completely irrelevant. You CHOOSE. You choose to do the work, or you choose not to. If you choose not to, you're done, get out of here.

If you choose to do the work, then a schedule will keep you in the flow. Get a website / app that tracks completed tasks as a chain and then DON'T BREAK THE CHAIN!

Anki
best version
>>
>>139382294

It helps some and it doesn't help others, you gotta figure out what works the best for you.
>>
>>139382294
It does help, simply for the fact that writing it forces you to focus a little bit more.

Just learn the stroke order and write it a couple times if you're lazy, do it a bunch if it helps you focus.

>>139382327
That works too, but anki can derp it's stats sometimes due to date rollovers.

>>139382083

>>
>>139382473
Isn't motivation by nature of the word short term?
We got some bullshit motivational speech in college about the difference between motivation and discipline
>>
>>139382610
No? Are you saying a VN you're excited about today suddenly is irrelevant to you tomorrow?
>>
>>139382610
maybe you confuse motivation with inspiration
>>
>>139382682
It's true though, it's very difficult to keep up long term motivation.

ESPECIALLY for beginners, it's a really common thing to be super motivated to learn the kana and then slowly fizzle out when the actual hard stuff is encountered. There's a reason why people look down on new years resolutioners etc.

"Motivation" has sort of morphed into this ephemeral inspiration / excitement that doesn't last for long.

I keep all the mined vocab in one deck, I just have tags for the cards with Rikai's import settings. For example, "MinedVocab" and "VN_キミのとなりで恋してる!" (changing the 2nd tag to whatever I'm reading of course, just pulled the tag from the card I happened to be on).

It's not relevant at all to reviewing and it doesn't show anywhere on the card, but it's neat to be able to tell what I got the word from if the sentence isn't enough context to tell.

I also tag lewd words so I can move them into a different deck if I want to if I'm going to be studying in public where other people can see.

I started when I was in my first year (of 3) in college, did a few months, got 2k into core deck, then stopped because I was a weak fool who thought I could jump back on after a 2 week holiday. If I had not given up I'd atleast be able to read moege comfortably. I think about how much time I wasted on a daily basis. It hurts.

Anyway just do what you can I guess, but do it everyday. I'd recommend keeping up with your reps and doing at the very least an hour of reading/listening a day. If you can do more than that then do it, don't waste time like I did.

For you, anon.

>>139406478
Got that down already, I think. I was thinking more in terms of systematized study for the test. I'm thinking of stuff like this:
- Nihongo Sou Matome N2
- (Shin) Kanzen Master N2
- Finish the DOJG deck (halfway through DOIJG)
- Read newspaper articles/more formal stuff
- Keep playing random VNs or JRPGs
- Start JapanesePod101
- Listen to raw native material

I also have 6 old N2 tests with answers but I'll leave those for the final weeks.

Doable in three months?

"In informal writing, dakuten is occasionally used on vowels to indicate a shocked or strangled articulation; for example, on あ゛ or う゛"

I couldn't find yet how "wa" with a ゛should be read, though. It'd be nice if anyone could help instead of sending shitty unrelated answers or saying that my question is silly. Most materials don't teach how those kana should be read.

That said I do sometimes add stuff that I already know the components of when there's rendaku, i.e. 一目惚れ, and I think 9000+ cards in Anki is still totally reasonable.

I obviously don't mine shit whose meaning I can infer from the kanji dude. Could you refrain from making retarded assumptions to win your dumb argument?

Some of my cards are mined so that I can remember the readings, not the meaning. And 9000 cards isn't even that much. Assuming that one has done Core6k, it's just 3000 and there are way more than 3000 cards that you can infer the meanings with the 1500 kanji you know from core

For the anons who completed RtK, how did you study?

Pic related, this is how I'm doing things. I am progressing one chapter a day (which should mean RtK 1 is done in some 2 months), I do write the kanji once, number of strokes, then keyword and the mnemonic (later on just the keywords). I do this early in the morning. During the evening, I review using Koohii.

Any other suggested method, anons? I am a real beginner, but am disciplining myself to progress a bit every day. Medium term step is Core and Genki into reading things.

It's better to use Anki. Otherwise you're going to have to keep visiting this random website on top of using Anki when you start vocabulary.

> I am progressing one chapter a day

I don't think there's much benefit in sticking to the chapters. If I remember correctly, the number in each chapter varies from something like 20 to 60. It's easier to just do the same number of kanji each day.

> I do write the kanji once, number of strokes, then keyword and the mnemonic (later on just the keywords)

You don't need to write anything except the kanji. I wrote my stories down but in retrospect it was a waste of time.

Anki is not working for me since I really don't want to study just a regular X number of kanji per day. I'd rather divide it either in chapters or in primitives, maybe do 2 chapters a day for the twentysomething ones. AFAIK, Anki does not offer that capability, or maybe I am just inept. I have the deck ready, but I don't know how to manually input which new cards per day I want to study.

About writing the stories, I do remember most anyway, but writing them helps with retention I've found. Maybe I really should drop it.

>>139410816

This is literally my first camera shot on an android device. I have never found a use for it until now. Sorry.
>>
>>139410854
In Anki, you would set new cards per day to 0 and then Custom study -> Increase today's new cards limit by (however many kanji you did today).

Hiroganas, Katanas and Kanjis are quite useless when you can just use Romanjis to have full comprehension of any material. The only problem is that you must have a few hundred hours worth of listening experience. That way you will know all the basic grammar and vocabulary and won't need Anki for the Kanjis.

I don't understand why you're so mad that someone has chosen the efficient route of Romanjis.

2k/6k is just 2k with an additional 4k. The 10k deck is the one with the fucked up order.

Isn't it one of the first steps in the guide? How could you have missed it?
>>
>>139419588
What's wrong with my total card count?
>>
>>139420049
just checked, and unless i missed it (again) its probably pretty deep in there

i did find this though
>how many words do naitives know?
小学生レベル: 5千~2万語 Elementary School Level: 5-20 thousand
中学生レベル: 2万~4万語 Middle School Level: 20-40 thousand
高校生レベル: 4万~4万5千語 High School Level: 40-45 thousand
大学生レベル: 4万5千~5万語 College Level: 45-50 thousand

>20 thousand just for middle school level
holy shit
>>
>>139420366
I think a lot of that is words you can easily guess by kanji. Like 和食、洋食, etc.
>>
>>139420366
>just checked, and unless i missed it (again) its probably pretty deep in there

Looks like it's been removed from the newest guide for god knows what reason, it was clear as day in the older guide.

I honestly doubt that I know 20k words in English and I'm a 20 year old native.
>>
>>139420570
it probably includes anything with its own dictionary entry

like 返り咲く and 返り咲き

on average how many times do you see a kanji in anki before you actually remember it
>>
>>139420366
小学生、12歳で1万2千とすると
年1000だよ

いけそうでしょ?
>>
>>139420889
Not a clue, does Anki keep track of that?

I'd guess 2-3 times but I don't really have an idea how accurate that is.
>>
>>139420607
actually, you probably do.

what happens when you bury something in anki and how do i get the buried items back?
>>

I just skim read the second link but it looks like only the smart learned fucks have 20k~ worth of words in their heads.

So saying that average Japanese middle schoolers have that knowledge seems crazy.

Like, individually, the kanji mean "plain bowing mad", but I can't think of a good way to get a good meaning of all three together in a single concept. I appreciate any help on this.
