I find it real hard to enjoy the anime with Naga as a proper foil. Its just a bit boring, and drawn out. The OVAs and Film are so much better. It also has better chemestry for comedy. I'm slugging through Next right now. How anyone can prefer the TV series over the rest have some shitty tastes.

I doubt Lisa Ortiz chose not to be in the dubs. It was because ADV owned the rights to the movies and Software Sculptors owned the rights to the TV series. So ADV chose all new voices for their dub. Plus they changed every fucking spell name.

Slayers is the epitome of 90s anime. Half the show is character development through comedy. The other half is drama. Many people prefer the comedy episodes. But they would be overdone if they weren't paired with the fighting/drama episodes. As we kind of saw in TRY which had a larger percentage of comedy episodes than drama episodes. But the inverse is also true. R and Evo focused too hard on trying to be serious and dramatic.

Well, aside from how they basically confirmed their relationship at the end of NEXT, Lina treats everyone harshly. So I think a lot of people like the idea of Lina getting together with Xellos or Zengadis because they react to her Tsun comments the most. But in reality, the one Lina reacts to the most is Gourry. Gourry is the one guy she drops her guard around and admits what she truly is feeling.
As a viewer, I actually think the character of Gourry is brilliant. Because it gives Lina (and everyone else) a chance to explain exposition or world building while making it funny. In most fantasy series, you'll have a 10 minute speech of how one country is at war with another because some king broke a vow and blah blah blah. This makes the viewer feel both bored and annoyed. But when it comes to Slayers, they deliver the same type of exposition while mocking Gourry for not already knowing it. This keeps the viewer from getting bored and annoyed, because there's someone who knows less about the world than they do.
I like Xellos/Lina because I like the chemistry of Xellos teasing or knowing something Lina doesn't know. I also felt they were more of equals, while Gourry was kind of like Lina's pet.I liked to imagine that Lina's curiosity gets the better of her one day and Xellos leads her down a wild goose chase of an adventure as to awaken Lina's love for him.

The author's laziness. Naga was originally supposed to appear in vol. 4 of the main LN series, but then Kanzaka decided it'd be too much of a pain to explain her background and reasons behind her appearance, so he made up Amelia instead, or so I've heard. One of the things that I genuinely dislike about Slayers is that Naga and Amelia are not allowed to interact with each other in person, which means Naga will never make a meaningful appearance in the TV series as long as Amelia is present (that disgrace from Evo-R doesn't count).

The biggest insult with those filler episodes was that they spent so long actually getting somewhere with the story and the moment things started happening we got 5 or so filler episodes that completely killed the pacing.

Didn't feel like the same series at all.
Suddenly the cast didn't just blow up the plans of random goons sent to mess with them and instead fell into their games. Those 2 goons that were fucking with them for almost the whole series would have either been blasted off in the first few seconds of every episode so that a more interesting adventure could get in their way, or been killed off in their first encounter with the cast in any earlier season. It annoyed me to no end that suddenly everyone was falling for shit and the humor had gone full on slapstick.

Knight of Aqua Lord is the best manga, probably because it's actually long enough to have a story. All the others aren't particularly bad, but just different. Like that one where they go to a sci fi parallel world.
There's nothing wrong with Try and Revolution R. It's not as bad as some makes it. And yes they recycled stuff for Revolution R but still actually included new things from the novels. If one skips it they won't understand some of the things when reading the novel.
I'm still clinging to hope we'll get the rest of the main novels animated one day.
