Ah, sorry. I didn't think it would blow up so much. I probably shouldn't have answered the 9person price quote with such a large range.
I don't intend on charging more for multiple characters. The range is moreso for the characters base and varying levels of polish. Going up 10 a character for polish would still add 90 which is a significant jump that I didn't bother explaining at all.
Sorry, I suppose the breakdown isn't very clear and I also haven't decided on how exactly to tier them either. I haven't much collage practice to begin with so I don't even know if it would be worth mentioning. I just thought the initial idea was a fun project.

I am glad you think so honestly. I've gotten used to digital manipulation. I tend to do figure studies on paper with a pen to practice swiftly. It's awful. Go through them quickly and many times while fixing mistakes so you can stop looking at atrocities you can't erase is a good motivator for me.

You have to take the market into consideration. Very few people are going to put out $60-$100 or more for a drawing.
If you charge $60 for one character, you might get 3 customers. If you charge $20, you could get many, many more. In the end you do more work, but viewing it like that is silly if you are looking at things from a marketing perspective.
Most goods based businesses operate at a lose when selling in limited quantities. It's only when you can sell in bulk that you profit.
Unless you view your art as a luxury item. And, if you do, you have to research the market to make sure you're not wrong. Doom's DA says he charges $80-$160 for commissions, and most high level artists I've come across charge around $150-$200.
So saying you feel your work is worth that is irrelevant. You don't get to set the standard rate, so you have to work the system. Otherwise, you'll never get business.

In terms of commissions, it's better to have few customers that pay more than lots of customers that pay less. For one, there's less strain on your body. For two, clients who take it easy with their wallets tend to put less pressure on you and are generally more pleasant to deal with.
