WARNING: SPOILERS, DO NOT READMassive Vertex attack, literally countless numbers of them. To counter this Anzu forms a formation where she sits in the back and snipes off the ones who slip through, 3 heroes stand in the front fighting, while 1 rests, so they don't get fatigued and can last out what is expected to be a long fight. Chikage is resting at first.
Anzu is basically the leader now, and tells Wakaba to swap out and rest since she's fighting in the centre and so had more to do. Chikage and Wakaba high five as they swap (however it was just a friendly high five, no yuri undertones). Since Yuuna is just fighting with her fists as always she has a hard time countering all the Vertex so Anzu lends her some support with her crossbow.
Wakaba swaps with Tamako (Tamacchi-senpai? Tama?) and resumes fighting. Vertex then decide to merge into a super-Vertex and make a giant snake. Wakaba cuts it in half but both halves keep living and almost kill Wakaba as she revels in her victory. They realise the snakes are unkillable since cutting them only makes more of them, so Tama unleashes her trump card, using the 精霊の力 - power of the fairies. I wish we actually got to see some fairies if she's using their power. Her 旋刃盤 (no idea what this weapon is called in English) becomes ginormous and flaming and she throws it at the snake Vertex, and they all burn to death.
Tama collapses from exhaustion from using her trump card. Meanwhile the Vertex begin to merge again to form an even bigger super-Vertex. Wakaba realises they're screwed if it succeeds and it still has weak points as it's still merging, so they prepare to attack them. Which means the 4 remaining heroes jump on top of Tama's giant 旋刃盤 and they charge in to get swarmed by armies of little Vertex. As they get overwhelmed, Wakaba activates her trump card and becomes superfast and zooms around killing everything and the heroes destroy the giant Vertex and win. Wakaba collapses, the end.

Which is just easy fanservice rather than progression. It's a massive investment (and risk to the studio / franchise) that doesn't move the series forward in any meaningful way. It's a recipe for the same stagnation that series like Nanoha get stuck in.

Hey now, remember you're not reading the novel, you're reading an amateur fan-translation of it into English, which inevitably loses a large amount of the detail, depth and character the original possesses. It's a perfectly valid, well-written novel on its own.

Movie 1 and 2 could be enjoyed by anyone, not just fans. Meanwhile, StrikerS and Vivid were obviously aimed at people who were already familiar with the franchise, and had little to no capacity of attracting new fans.
Because YuYuYu is not as famous as Nanoha was, i think animating Wasuyu and Nowayu would be great idea-for enlarging the fanbase. Even thought they are parts of the larger continuity, either of them can also do well as a standalone story, and thus is new-fan friendly.
And also, there are many potentially badass fight scenes which, if animated well, could alone attract positive attention.

WaSuYu exists almost entirely to set-up the anime; it's definitely not a terribly compelling or complete story without it. NoWaYu is more of it's own thing, but it also is clearly setting up plot points that will be used going forwards, and that needs to happen while it's still fresh, not after two or three years of treading water. Yuyuyu needs exciting, original material; it relies upon surprises and playing the audience's emotions, and wouldn't have done half as well if there were people spoiling things like "she gets better at the end of the manga" in episode 11.

Oh, one more thing to note: Following the naming conventions of the YuYuYu Vertexes (乙女型 being Virgo), the serpent Vertex fought in Chapter 9 of NoWaYu could quite possibly be called the Serpens (蛇型) Vertex. I didn't translate it that way because I'm not entirely sure if they were actually going with that as a name rather than just a description, though it actually quite neatly fits in with the YuYuYu 12.

Serpens is special because it is the only constellation that is split into two non-contiguous parts: the head and the tail.
In Greek mythology, snakes are seen as a symbol of rebirth. Ophiucus depicts a healer who killed a snake, but the snake came back to life.
So since the Vertex in NoWaYu Ch. 9 revived when split, it seems like it was perhaps it was indeed supposed to be the "Serpens Vertex". Perhaps the giant vertex was going to be Ophiucus.

In WaSuYu, they're referred to as [constellation name in Japanese]座 instead, making it unambiguous that they were referring to the constellation. The YuYuYu website uses the English constellation names in katakana. In WaSuYu, when the Aries Vertex is described as うなぎのような (eel-like) once, but is always referred to as 牡羊座 and never as うなぎ型. Meanwhile, the Vertex in NoWaYu 9 is introduced as 蛇のような (serpent-like), and then consistently referred to as 蛇型.
The serpent Vertex nearly bit Wakaba in half, but Aries' design doesn't seem to have a mouth. In WaSuYu, it also seems to attack by simply lunging rather than biting.
Finally, the trick to the multiplication for Aries seemed to be that there was only one main Vertex body and the split-off parts were clones, so you only needed to damage the main body. The trick behind the serpent Vertex, however, was that you needed to deal enough damage to kill the entire body at once to get rid of one snake so that no part of it had the opportunity to regenerate. Tamako still needed to kill all three snakes.
It's just kind of frustrating that Aries isn't actually goat shaped aside from the horns.
