There's some murican law that dictates that shows can't have 1:1 representations of the toys they're marketing, or something like that. I'm probably in the minority. Though I have read the original manga and watched the very first anime since it was short enough. Picking up a 200+ episode anime felt too daunting and 5D's and Zexal didn't catch my interest when they started airing, but I decided to give Arc-V a shot since it looked fun enough. It's way easier to follow a long series weekly and I don't regret my decision.
I'll probably catch up with the older series eventually.

Here's the rundown. I'll try to explain this trainwreck to the best of my ability.
So the Lancers reach the City. What City? The City. Right away they all get arrested. Probably because they were rescued for a bit by BUY BLACKWINGS and TOPSIES REE, the two cancers of both that dimension and our dimension. In jail, they meet ENJOY and make him ENJOY his old way of ENJOYing duels. Then Shun beats some guards up and they all escape. Also gotta mention Shun fights Dennis The "Menace" and I guess the way Dennis entames is suspicious. Hmm..
We then meet the best thing to come out of this arc, Jean-Michel Roger. This guy tries to send the Lancers to Trashtown but the Timelords and Aqaba Rage stop him just in time for them to enter into a tournament, the Friendship Cup. The winner gets to fight the one and only king, Jack Atlas.
Jean makes Yuya fight Jack in an exhibition match and he gets bodied. But then, his Yuzu senses begin to tingle and him and Yuzu have some moments throughout the tournament.So the tournament goes on and nothing of importance happens until UH OH DENNIS THE MENACE IS BACK WITH BUY ANCIENT GEARS. Then Shun explodes the battlefield.
Now we go to HIGHWAYS where duels get a little more interesting and oh snap Sora is back to save Yuzu after Jean's duel machine, Sergey completely slams her into a building in which she blows up. Too bad. At this point there's a certain bee that just wont shut the hell up so Yuya completely annihilates it instead of just letting it sting itself so it dies. After that, we find out if Crow is a friend or foe, and it turns out he is still our foe but Shun's friend. Because Shun loses. How? BUY BLACKWINGS.
Oh yeah and Yugo is here too. He's cool. He doesn't really do much but be cool. Because yeah.
It's finally time for the return of BERSERK YUYA who completely decimates Crow. It's not even funny. No more shilling for you Konami.

Since Bracelet-kun evaporated Yugo and Yuri, it's KINGU VS SERGEY IN THE SEMI FINALS, IN WHICH SERGEY BECOMES 5DS' VILLAIN INCARNATE. And then he dies.He gets beaten to death by Commons.
So now the Commons are in a riot, but don't worry, for some reason Yuya dueling Jack will calm them down. And let's leave rescuing Yuzu from Jean to Sora and Tsukikage, since they are clearly competent and did great protecting her the first time.

The lancers were the reason everyone from trashtown were broken free.
Yuya beat King, and became the King, at the same time he learnt his own dueling style along with storing peace with the commons and tops. Which pretty much solves 50% of the synchro arc.
Tsukikage done plenty of shit this arc despite jobbing a few times he still accomplished minor things that were needed.
Reira despite having PTSD took on a few goons, and defeated them.
Finally if Reiji defeats Roger that's another achievement for the lancers
While the lancers may be useless at some point their actions easily dilutes their fails.
