I was initially confused because it was supposed to be six tank volumes in the original format, but I think the Eng release are scans of the licenced manga which was published in three larger volumes. The manga is 38 chapters in total so go by that rather than the volume count, I'm sure it's still available at the usual places.

I think it tried too hard to distance itself from the exaggeration that plagued stuff like Tsubasa or Fantasista. MC is incomprehensibly bad at football. Unrealistically so, even.
I found that Area no Kishi had a better balance, though I'll admit that it errs a bit more on the side of fantasy.
Not that it detracts from the emotion. I found DAYS exceptional.

I really liked the pacing of Area no Kishi, especially considering the relatively large cast. Girls are great, MC is not a complete retard like Tsubasa, there is some semblance of a real journey and it is generally a very comfy manga with an immersive setting. I found the portrayal of his older brother unbelievable though. There is still a bit of Tsubasa-style asspulling too.
I find DAYS much more intense and well-executed, but MC really forces me to suspend my disbelief at how stupid and immature a person his age can get.I know I would be trying to git gud and fuck Ubukata in his position.

Well yeah but the difference between Kono and Gekkan is that Gekkan is actually pretty funny and the characters are 10/10. And Chiyo is way cuter than some tsundere and Nozaki is a better male lead this guy. The biggest diffrence, though, is that Gekkan is presented as a gag manga and Chiyo's romance not going anywhere is the main gag. Kono is presented as a romance manga with a romance that's not going anywhere, and comedy that isn't funny.
It might just be me but it's one of the blandest manga I can think of.
Butter was decent idea, and the author can write some decent characters, but this was another manga that didn't seem to be going anywhere. It needed a little more drive and character development. It felt like a manga that was meant to be long and fleshed out over a number of volumes, but the slow start and pacing along with the fact it never quite had the substance to sustain it's own existence got it axed.

Sums it up. I did, however, think Kono was really conceived along the same lines as Nozaki-kun but later could not decide whether it wanted to take itself seriously or have an autistic male protagonist.

I really liked the atmosphere, art and pacing, but will concede it doesn't quite have the flash of Ballroom e Youkoso. Nevertheless, I was hoping for some romantic development and non-competitive social dancing SoL.
