I dropped it after a while because I didn't want to deal with another Hirano-time release schedule, and because at the time I felt the concept was being underutilized. I'll have to check again to see if I still feel that way now that it's further along.
General idea from what I recall is that important historical figures associated with war get reincarnated in your typical low-fantasy world and are basically left to their own devices. Everyone seems to be out to carve out their own piece of the afterlife, which seems like an awesome recipe for scratching the "who would win in a fight" itch while playing around with ideas like "ok, stick two people who lived centuries apart in the same time period and see who adapts better".
Except the general execution seemed to be lining up pretty much as "anything the Japanese audience would be familiar with has an invisible advantage granted by the author, and the ratio of eastern historical figures to western is heavily skewed in favor of the east", which I can understand given the medium and the audience, but I can't forgive Hirano for it because of how well he played with everything BUT that in Hellsing.
Again, I dropped it fairly early on and haven't checked in on it again so my impressions may be outdated.

Pic related is what they could try to make the limited animation seem more natural, but CG is used to save budget and time, not blow through it.
Expelled from Paradise had some pretty fantastic direction with the action scenes being CG

After rereading Berserk recently, I have to disagree. Golden Age arc is awesome, but honestly, ALL of the arcs are up there for me... Berserk is consistently brilliant. I mean, Lost Children arc, Conviction arc, Hawk of the Millennium Falcon arc, and so far the Fantasia arc are all stellar. Black Swordsman arc is the only one where, while still very good, had some early installment weirdness, just a bit.
