I can't like this just because of how horrible a mcdonalds looks in real life to me

Sadly it's just a short, but based on the reaction we got a couple days ago, it's pretty clear that the people would give a McDonald's-produced anime all the chance in the world to succeed. McDonald's just has to greenlight themselves.

I still love all the little attentions to detail. The scene w/ the manager first being shown has a wet floor sign, the part with 'smile kudasai' has a dude washing his hands the whole scene, proper wrapping procedures, proper tray layout under the table, proper microwave under the table, details on the shake lines and how their product comes out. Everything but the size of the crew room was dead on. unless jap mcdonalds have bigger crew rooms than in the states where its a glorified closet space

I'm working at Jap McD's right now, and the crew room is pretty cramped, and still, sometimes they store lot of tray and buns inside it.
They pay me 910 yen per hour, but apparently other McD, closer to Train Station, have a bit better fee.
Mine is like 1 minute walk from home so I have no intention changing place.

I imagine fast food work is probably less annoying in Japan since I doubt there aren't insanely shitty/loud people who just want to abuse fast food workers to make themselves feel better. Nail that sticks out and all that.
>>
>>138886194
>one minute walk to the store
Being close to the store is the best. Closest to my store @ 4 mile, but thats still better than people coming like 40+ minutes a day to get to the store. How is it in the store though? Managers being nice/dicks, food safety issues etc.
>>
>>138886309
Well, if you're grill side it doesn't really matter who the customers are.

Well, except for those fuckers who order gluten free. The second a gluten free shows up on the screen you know it's going to be a nightmare of a custom order.

>Today

maybe in asia, mcdonalds are targeted to be more like middle-class dining (heck, pizza hut places are almost like luxuries in Asia) since they already have street stalls or whatever for the bottom-line, but it's just unthinkable here.

Those sort of values are pretty common to the East in general tho. Other than the most obvious cultural and religious differences, the family values between Russia and Iran all the way to Japan aren't really too different. Even at the height of the more high sexually charged Edo period, when whores were plenty, "respectable" ladies were married and didn't leave the house unless they had a good reason or their husband's permission, much as was the case in Ancient Greece and Rome.

I believe even being able to request a smile from girls is considered extremely sexist over here. It was something that surprised me when I first heard you could do that at area eleven McDonald's. Maybe it isn't sekuhara to them because they're getting paid to do it, like hostesses.
>>
>>138894226
>Not at all. Unless she were somehow being pressured into it.

The problem is that these days in the West, any woman doing anything for any other reason than her own individual pleasure is considered sexist or just strange.

East=woman stops working to breed and raise children out of a social or cultural obligation, being expected to put a degree of her own happiness aside for that of others.

West=woman stops working to breed and raise children cause she "likes it."

There's a subtle yet important difference here.

Not only that, but Westerners today would probably be more responsive to watching a girl like senpai continue to work her way up the corporate ladder while juggling being a mother. The idea that a woman should have to quit working to be a mother is something that's become foreign because the family unit in the West has become increasingly matriarchal.
>>
>>138894569
>The problem is that these days in the West, any woman doing anything for any other reason than her own individual pleasure is considered sexist or just strange.
Is this how it is in western Europe? In the US it's not at all rare for a mother to stop working for several years or even altogether, or switch to working from home, to take care of her children. It's not as common as it used to be, what with the way pay increases aren't catching up with inflation, but it's not uncommon.
>>
>>138894569
There are people everywhere who like to see others doing all sorts of things with their lives.

Choosing to sacrifice a career for the benefit of your children isn't really being "pressured". If you got pregnant and wanted to marry someone other than the father of the child, but your family harassed you into marrying the father, that would be getting pressured.

What's more is that Japan can afford the minimal loss in their workforce. Women don't hold as many high level positions in Japan as they do in the West, and the Japanese birthrate is circling the drain. New births are more important than ever.

I don't think what you're saying is necessarily wrong, just that you aren't considering all the factors and are idealizing Japan for your own desires a bit, which is pretty common on here.
>>
>>138895211

In America, I think people are still fairly religious and so these old Protestant or Catholic family values linger much more in the cultural landscape than in the more secularized Western Europe.

>>138895322
>Choosing to sacrifice a career for the benefit of your children isn't really being "pressured". If you got pregnant and wanted to marry someone other than the father of the child, but your family harassed you into marrying the father, that would be getting pressured.

Again, the very loose definition of "pressure" more common among radical feminist and social justice circles often includes simply ingrained cultural values that seem to go against the values of these two groups. There are many feminists who would argue that the woman simply marrying the father of the child in the example you've given out of a commitment to a set of cultural or religious values that encourage her to, even without excessive pressure from her family unit, is still pressure if she'd otherwise have chosen somebody else were it not for these values.

If that sounds a bit retarded, it should. I'm not idealizing Japan, I'm just saying that in Japan there are cultural values that are deeply a part of people's psyches that don't necessarily mesh with certain Western or modern ideas of either egalitarianism or feminism, and those who are extremely committed to these two latter things would regard these cultural values in question as oppressive, regardless of whether or there's any state pressure or even any kind of force involved.
>>
>>138895322
>and the Japanese birthrate is circling the drain. New births are more important than ever.
Most of the west has this same problem though. Populations are declining and birthrates aren't high enough to even maintain the current levels without immigration. Of course this wouldn't be a problem if there was no "safety net" system that each generation had to pay into to take care of the next one, and instead they just did what people traditionally did: taking care of their own parents. Though many of their customs are quite damaging to individuals, Japan at least has ideal family values for the maintenance of a stable, liberal capitalist society. That is something to look up to, I'd say.
>>
>>138894569

It sounds like you're talking about each side going to an extreme.

Right, and these are values you prefer over what you see in the West, and it's a culture you personally aren't a part of, you've only experienced it vicariously through anime and the like. The grass is always greener, etc.

>>138896062
>birthrates aren't high enough to even maintain the current levels without immigration
Japan doesn't have nearly as much immigration as the West does, so yeah, I would say new births are still more important to Japanese society than Western society, especially the US. Japan has an ancient culture to protect, the US doesn't. There's also been a lot of disillusionment from the youth of Japan and elderly parents are more often the ones stuck caring for their kids as they waffle on their careers.

I think Japan is a cool place too, and a part of me wishes I'd had the chance to live the anime high school life there, but if you read enough news coming out of there you start to realize it's not that much different than the West, these days.

My first job was in a small Greek restaurant. Honestly liked the job and I looked forward to going into work, but the expectations were really high since everyone else has been there for at least a year with previous experience and I was just starting out. Dropped a gyro once onto the sandwich counter when I was loading the tray, forgot small things like dressings when in the middle of a lunch rush, shit like that.

>Right, and these are values you prefer over what you see in the West, and it's a culture you personally aren't a part of, you've only experienced it vicariously through anime and the like. The grass is always greener, etc.

nice strawman

The only point I made is that Japanese and Western society are different and that feminists in America or Europe might see cultural values that encourage women to do or behave some way or another in Japan as oppressive, even if no force is involved simply because their definition of oppressive extends to include what they see as soft forms of coercion. That has absolutely nothing to do with where my own preferences lie.

>Japan has an ancient culture to protect,

Japan has done a pretty good job at getting rid of that by itself. Most Japanese youth aren't really very nationalist and even the nationalists have usually been greater forces for modernization or Westernization against Japanese traditionalists who usually came from the Shinto and Buddhist establishments. Tokyo for the most part is not really a very traditional Japanese city.

Sorry bruh thought you were the original anon who was waxing poetic about wanting to live there because MUH CULTURE. It also seems like you're unaware that there are Japanese women who find aspects of Japanese culture oppressive, too. "Culture" doesn't automatically exempt practices from criticism and regulation, even for members of the culture.

>It also seems like you're unaware that there are Japanese women who find aspects of Japanese culture oppressive, too.

While I'm definitely aware of this, I'm not convinced that these women are quite so prominent, at least not in most places in the country. Mostly I would say these types are a small but not necessarily powerless part of the urban class and that it is probably mostly women who are encouraging such "oppressive" cultural standards and shaming those who don't follow them. That seems to be the case in most other countries which like Japan have had strict views regarding women's roles. I think the view that it is the women of Japan rebelling against patriarchal norms imposed by men is based on an outdated "battle of the sexes" paradigm. If other countries like Iran, Russia, China, Saudi Arabia or even America are any indication, it is mostly women who tend to be the most attached to these standards and more likely to resist their changing.

i think he'd be like an unassuming character with an array of talents and senior classmen wisdom that just pops up at convenient moments in the plot before he goes back to just being a side character that gets like 10 seconds per episode focusing on what awesome feat he's humbly accomplished that nobody really notices cause they're so wrapped up in their own drama
