I think it really depends how you define "realistic". I think Re-L was an excellent and believable female character, but I don't think she was a realistic depiction of a woman at all. Realistically, women are nothing like Re-L, and don't want to have anything with combat, hard work, or getting dirty.

This all pretty much holds true for Re-L. Hell, she also spends a good portion of the story bullying Vincent into doing what she wants. And he mostly goes along with it because he likes her.

She does, but when it comes down to it she'll still do what needs to be done, especially fighting. I don't feel that's true for most women who won't make hard decisions or actions even if they absolutely need to. Most women wait for a man to save them, or just accept their fate rather than making sacrifices and hard decisions to do what they need to.

Bullying a beta orbiter into doing what she wants is probably the most realistic thing about her.

I think she was at the least one of the most interesting female characters in Anime. Maybe not the most realistic, but I appreciated the risk.

Re-L isn't Monad, though. Although it's implied that she's a human clone of the Monad Proxy.

Well she kinda is. It's implied she is when Real who is a clone of Monad/Re-l is called monad by Ergo. I should probably re-watch it though it's been years.
