It has been over a year since we initiated the project to shamelessly pirate a 300,000JPY DVD box of historical works in Japanese animation, Nihon Art Animation Eiga Senshuu.
Now, I would like your help again, this time for a similar DVD set from the same publisher with the same ridiculous price tag: Mainichi Eiga Concours - Oofuji Noburou Shou - Jushou Tanpen Animation Zenshuu (毎日映画コンクール 大藤信郎賞 受賞短編アニメーション全集). That's a long name, so I'll be referring to it as Mainichi Eiga Concours.
This DVD set contains several Oofuji Noburou award winners, a prestigious AOTY award mostly limited to independent productions.
Most of the films available here have been re-released later on, but there still remain a few that cannot be found elsewhere, or only in low quality:
- Satsujin/Murder (only a shitty VHS? rip available)
- Minikui Ahiru no Ko (not available)
- Tenma no Torayan (not available)
- Ginga no Sakana (not available)
- Rusuban (not available)
Ideally, I would like to rip the entire set, but in case of limited resources, this corresponds to discs 1, 4 and 8.

As you can see, it is out of print.
Instead of waiting forever in the hopes of seeing a re-release of one of those films, I am reaching out for people with access to the physical library of one of these American universities:
- Cornell University
- University of California, San Diego
- University of Michigan
These are the only universities listed on WorldCat as having the DVD set in their possession. The first two universities do not allow checking out these DVDs, but should have viewing rooms available for some privacy.
If you have access to one of these libraries, own a laptop with a DVD reader, and are willing to go out of your way to make rare animu available, then please send an email to [email protected], as I might not be able to respond to replies if the thread dies while I am away.

I'm sure the DVD set is also available elsewhere around the world not covered by Worldcat, especially in Japan, but I'm not aware of other reliable library search engines. It might be worth investigating.

The Mainichi set was "only" about 250,000JPY if I remember correctly, but now that it is out of print, the price is off the page.
