that's because most everyone has watched a LOT of anime and is past entry-level phases of trying to establish taste and finding what's quality out there. They know what they like.
Hence why recommendation threads are against the rules.
every so often you'll see a thread pop up for a really good anime, but there's no shitposting or arguing to do, so anons post "oh yeah, good stuff, loved it" and then the thread quietly dies. The thread for the last episode of the second season of Mushishi was a perfect example of that... it was beautiful, anons posting music and art and good vibes.

Not to mention, comedy is an element that's practically as relative as it gets. I mean you can critisize something for it's use the way it utilizes the visual medium for the purpose of comedy. But that's pretty much a problem with every medium, anime, live-action, western cartoons usually handle it well the most often.

I grew up watching western cartoons anon. I might have exaggerated in the previous post, however you can't deny that comedy is generally the main focus of 90% of western animation, especially the mainstream ones. After all, they're mostly made with small kids in mind.

I only watched SU a few times with my nephew, so I can't say if you're right or wrong here. However, the little a saw didn't really impress me, it didn't seemed that different from others cartoons that I watched as a child.
