Reconguista ended up being a convoluted mess. You had to go back and read a synopsis of every episode to keep track of where characters were, what factions were fighting, why they were fighting, and who got stuck in what faction that week. Sure you figure it all out in the second watch, but it's hardly worth a rewatch.

It's pretty clear that Sunrise didn't want it to happen again. That's why IBO spells out the plot very deliberately, and keeps the pacing in a moderately slow and somewhat predictable manner.

Now that the story has been poured over our heads like a bottle of cheap maple syrup, we might be lucky enough to have the pacing kicked up a notch for the second cour.
