Very likely he was the previous wearer of the berserker armor. As to how he became that undead thing, who knows. He was friends with Flora so it's entirely possible some kind of magic was used to transform him into that when his human body could no longer support feeding the armor. That's only my take on it, we might never really know.

Skull Knight is fucking King Gaiseric, its made rather obvious in this panel.
He's the one who used a behelit in the depths of the original city that Falconia now rests upon, and that the prior city sat upon as well, you saw a brief glimpse of where all the branded where sacrificed at the bottom of the torture dungeons pitfall, and if he didn't use the behelit, he was present for the eclipse ceremony, and hes probably a branded that survived just like Guts did.
Berserk is still kind of bullshit. Rape doesn't turn a grown women into a retarded baby. I know of a few.

He fights the godhand, I doubt he himself ever used a behelitat least how it's meant to be usedit seem more likely that the behelit was used by the sage whom Gaiseric trapped in the tower of conviction. That sage could be Void, but that assumption is based only on his appearence - big brain signifying wisdom, sewn eyes, cut ears and spread skin that could be left from him being tortured.
What bothers me is that if it was him who used the behelit, and the citizens of Gaiseric's capital were the sacrifice, it means that the sage had to care about them. That makes Gaiseric look more like the bad guy, which fits Charlotte's story (I think she said that the angels came to the city to punish Gaiseric for something).

My interpretation was that Void was a religious leader who went too far or gained too much fanatical popularity. Skull night imprisoned him and probably had him tortured out of concern for the direction the country was going in. Void probably did care about the citizens and they cared for him, allowing him to sacrifice the entire country except Skull Knight who hated his guts.

It's all up in the air...I would love for Miura to go into more detail about this at some stage, because out of most of the characters in the manga, Skull Knight is easily the most intriguing...You could be right about the sage being Void, and that's why Skull Knight seems to go out of his way to attack him when the opportunity presents itself...but then I also have this feeling he could have used the behelit himself, though if he were an Apostle, I'm not sure he could rebel against God Hand..aren't they pretty much compelled to do their bidding in some form?

Consider the following proposition/theory:
Void only came into contact with the Idea of Evil because he destroyed (or lost) his five senses (look at his design - he has no nose, no eyes, no ears, etc), thus losing all perception of the physical world. All that could remain to him was the "concept of causality": he could still think, and those thoughts were ordered. Thereupon, he gained insight into the greatest depths of the spiritual world (either gradually or instantly, whatever), discovering the Idea of Evil and coming to understand a massive extent of the nature of reality, both physical and spiritual; and was granted power unimaginable by the Idea. Void bridged the gap between the physical and spiritual worlds by existing in both, something the Idea of Evil was (and is) incapable of doing: in a crippled physical body (sound familiar?) that lacked sensation, and in a spiritual body that possessed great power. The irony and meaning of his spiritual form, which prominently displays his brain on the outside of his skull, is that his brain or mind triumphed over the frailty and transience of physical sensation. He was granted certain powers unavailable to others (the Brand, whatever else he can do) as the "original Apostle of the Idea of Evil", and established the God Hand system by virtue of his own design, not by orders of the Idea or anything.
Does this make sense to anyone else? I honestly think this covers pretty much everything that we know about Void at this point and fills in all of the holes that are created by what we don't know about him.

It's heavily implied that Void was tortured by Gaeseric, rather than it being self inflicted. But I agree that Void is a very religious individual, his name probably reflects that he compeltley removed his humanity, his suffering, his earthly desires and his personality to transcend into a higher plane of perception and existence. The rise of monotheism, and demonic influence in the Berserk universe are probably because he made first contact with the Idea of Evil.
Since incarnation ceremonies feature God Hand members it's unlikely that the first one, Voids went the same way, for instance, we know that no apostles existed before this period, all of Void's sacrifices were killed by natural disaster, none of the branded corpses were eviscerated.
One of the tenants of the God Hand and the Idea of Evil seems to be that humanity as a collective should shape the existence of the entire universe, this is consistent with Monotheism in general since most have a human dominated perspective on the world, such as that man has dominion over animals, humans were created in Gods image. The Holy See is without knowing it stifling the influence of polytheistic gods of the Berserk universe and other astral beings such as the elves and witches by destroying their settlements and persuading the masses to shun them.

One thing I recently noticed is the slight differences between Guts' Pre Berserker amour, his post Black Swordsman armour (17-25) has black armour on the legs and feet, and shell like shoulder armour. Whilst the Black Swordsman armour (1-3 & 14) has plated shoulder armour, black trousers, large boots and that weird groin protector.

What's say Gaseiric/Skull Knight is king for that story those years back. Sage /Void is is the sage wizard too, yeah? Now let's say Gaseric is `pagan` worshipping Flora/Schierke`s magic spirits/Kings/religion, Void doesn't like it and wants a new one, and what's a new faith coming up at that time but the faith of the Holy See (serving the one true`God`:of evil) .Void converts/believes in Holy See, but as most like King Gaseiric are pagan its small (think early Christianity in the Roman empire). Void doesn't like this and wants to spread the Holy sees faith. He eventually succeeds and gains followers, maybe even eventually most of/entire country. Faith is still underground beneath the kings nose. Since past canons said you have to care at least a bit for your sacrifices,Void `cared` for his followers (like Griffith for the hawk,cared but none were his equals). Void and/or his followers do something/catch the kings eye, king takes void, maybe some followers too and tortures them. Void came into possession of red behelit at some point uses it summons Godhand, turns Sage into Void by sacrificing the his followers /country(if country think FMA:B) style with father) all except for Gaseiric ( later the story says the Godhand/angels descended to punish him ( for not believing in one true `God` of evil /Deus Vult, Convert or Die/maybe?). Holy See grows bigger/spreads. ,Gaseiric dons Berserker armour, fights until last drop of blood, becomes skill knight later. Theory I just came up with but that's it
