The training they are doing right now is only meant to strengthen their Quirks and not learn completely new things about their Quirks, but who said they expect immediate results in 1 week? This is probably meant to show them how to train and give them a guidance, that if you don't train your Quirk all the time you are bound to fail.
Let's take Deku as an example: he never stops training. This makes his body stronger which also makes his Quirk stronger. He does that because he knows what a great burden is on his shoulders, the burden to not disappoint All Might, to defeat AFO and become the next symbol of peace.
But what about Kaminari, Mina or Sato? These 3 don't seem like the people who are training daily or weekly to get stronger. Deku became a better user with his Quirk in 3 months than Kaminari and Sato with their Quirks, and these two had their Quirks for at least 11 years.
Kaminari or Sato should be 2 of the strongest people in the class with their Quirks, but if they can't control it or didn't get it stronger then what did they do?
Ojiro has a tail, but he seems to have learned MMA. Ochako wants to become a disaster rescue hero like No.13, but she still went and trained with a battle hero to learn more. Eraserheads' and Stain's Quirks don't give them physical boosts and they still are 2 of the strongest CQC fighters.
To be a hero doesn't just mean to have a strong Quirk. You have to train it and if you don't have a strong Quirk you have to compensate for it. A long time after this Arc there will probably be another test like at the beginning of the manga to see who improved how much with their Quirks. And this will show who had the will to continue this devilish training even after this arc.
Eraserhead said it, the students have to remember who they are and why they want to become heroes.
