Production was rushed as hell. Within six months they had to hire staff, write the script, commission designs, record the voices, animate it, and a host of other things. everything about the anime suffered because of it. Standard production length for a gundam series is 2 years for comparison. It also doesn't help that they replaced the director because he was busy with other projects.
