I find it hard to root for other studios because of rampant outsourcing to china, korea, and now even the fucking philippines. Is kyoani the only studio that does everything 100% in-house or at least 100% in-japan?

RCA Records is probably one of the worst record labels. They don't know how to promote artists and they've ruined careers(see Christina Aguilera, Shakira). However they are not as bad as Hollywood Records who seems to have no faith in their artists at all. When Selena Gomez released 'Love You Like a Love Song' under HR, the single peaked on radio almost a year after its release, exemplifying the labels messy release schedules. And after scoring a top 10 hit with 'Come and Get It', the label only released one other single from the album "Stars Dance' before ending the era. Gomez was so irritated with the label that she rush released a greatest hits album the following year just to end her contract. She then signed onto Interscope where she released her newest album 'Revival', which scored two top 5 hits, 'Good For You' and 'Same Old Love', and proved to be her most successful era so far, showing what an incompetent and mediocre label Hollywood Records truly is.

What kills me about Sunrise is that they their animation went from pretty amazing at times (see Escaflowne, 0083, Bebop) to the same generic looking crap that any other random studio could've produced. There was a severe quality drop at some point.

The big problem with K-On is the source material. It's complete utter shit. Yamada is an amazing director and she was able to do incredible things to make the anime watchable and enjoyable, but you can only polish a turd so much.
In fact, a big problem with KyoAni is that they settle for mediocre or just plain bad source material a lot of the time, most recently due to them picking their self-published LNs for maximum profits. The source material that is actually good, e.g. Hyouka, Hibike, Haruhi make the most memorable and good anime from KyoAni. Looking forward to Koe no Katachi.

That's the official story but it's unlikely the main reason because Kyoani is usually really far ahead of schedule and they usually have 5-6 episodes done before the first one even airs. That being the case they would've known way before episode 4 aired whether Yamakan was fit to be director or not.
There's also the fact that Kyoani lets their new directors sink or swim- see Ishidate with KnK. No reason to outfit fire Yamakan even if he was doing a poor job. Also he was fired by himself but he convinced a couple people to leave with him.

It was fucking great. However, it was way too heavy on comedy to really be compared with the likes of Aria, Hidamari, YKK, K-On, etc. To be honest, it really bugs me how people can't tell the difference between slice-of-life and comedy. They are different genres entirely, despite the fact that most SoLs have comedy elements, or are also comedies. K-On does the relaxing SoL really well while also managing to have pretty decent comedy and more importantly really well-done moe. Something like NNB is probably the middle ground between SoL and comedy, while the likes of YKK and Neia_7 are way over to the SoL side and things like Lucky Star and Gensiken are way over to the comedy side. I'm kind of rambling now, but my point shouldn't be too muddled I think.

Kakifly proved he was a talentless hack with volumes 5-6 when he did literally everything wrong, but he had tremendous beginner's luck. It's a decent unremarkable 4koma that ended up being excellent for use as source material because it didn't contain any glaring flaws.
Consider the final year when the club actively tries recruiting new members. For a manga that succeeds by its moeblobs, it must have taken either tremendous restraint or writer's block to forgo that golden opportunity to introduce new characters. Thanks to that the ending had potential for a real impact when it could have been completely neutered.
I think the fact the characters were created by a guy then later refined by women for the anime gave them a touch of realism to their personalities but still kept the moe factor that appeals to the male mind.
