When you look at the promotional descriptions and materials for the characters months before the show came out, some of the characters seem pretty different in comparison to how they are now.
Like how Kara was supposed to be a "second in command" kind of character to Osomatsu, and Osomatsu looks... uncharacteristic in the PV, though to be fair that's probably just for a gag.

Obviously some people liked it, but for people new to the series it's safer to skip it first and go back later.

Really? That was part of the fun for me. I know they're all so perfect it hurts, but it was easier to swallow because the show never made it seem like they were anything other than one giant joke. It's easier to like them when you see them occasionally. Now, if they were a regular thing, I'd get bored of them real quickly.
What really gets me is when they take the Matsus and make them basically F6 with "quirky" personalities. They're not the most perfect people, but they always seem to have the charm and the reason to back themselves up, even to each other, and they all just fall into the molds F6 laid out for them with a small Matsu twist. But all that happens is that those negative Matsu traits are made to be cuter and more attractive than they actually are. It just turns them all into generic pretty boys in my eyes.

I always thought the reason people love it not just because of the voice actors but just the characters alone. All of them have different personalities yet still are very similar with the same face. Now give them somewhat different looks with color schemes makes it even more fun. I still think the young but still legal look make it easier for people to draw lewds of them since it feel like they are shota but not really.
