Production I.G does pretty good 2D/3D digital compositing, but they're really the only ones and only some of their projects use it frequently.
You can at least tell somewhat of a difference from the movies. The shading is slightly more in depth and Gut's facial structure is different. Even if it is CGI I don't think it will be as bad as it could have been.

They missed the boat for a good adaption: the glory days of cel animation, OVAs and films.
Instead of doing a show they could have done some nice hour long OVAs in the 90's starting with Black Swordsman. Shorter, but would have had nice animation.
Now they're using CGI because Nips don't have the budget for nice animation anymore, and use CGI to fill in holes. But they're completely incompetent at it so their 3D/2D anime turns out to be a fucking mess.

I think the movies were crap for completely different reasons than just it's CGI. They got Guts' character just completely and blaintantly wrong in some scenes. I think it had the worst adaptation of the Casca waterfall love scene and Guts is just considered more of an overall meat head in the movies instead of the bad ass that he is. Motherfucker's supposed to be 20 in Golden Age and he looks atleast 30 in the movies. I dunno. It makes me puke how wrong they got some of the characters in that movie. The entire Eclipse part, I'd say they got down pretty well however.

The movies had to cram the entire golden age arc into 3 movies. In order to do that they had to cut stuff that was non-essential to the plot out to make it all fit. A lot of that non-essential stuff included character development, which basically ruins the whole thing. Without the character development Berserk's story isn't anything really special, that's why the movies just feel so hollow and pointless.

You're the retard. Good CG is expensive. Arc System Works invested man-months into each of the Guilty Gear characters. They don't just have to create each model in an initial effort they also have to invest a lot of time into tweaking the animation.
Cheap CG looks like shit and prevents you from doing one-off things (clothing changes, exaggerated reactions, high detail scenes that aren't reused, ...) because they're not cost-efficient.
Sure, you can use CG as a cost-saving measure, but it's not going to look good.

Cell-shading is the real problem and a garbage stylistic. If it was "realistic" CG it would have been better.

I think the worst instance of omitted stuff was the night raid where Guts remained behind to save their asses. It was a turning point in his relationship with the band, where he really became a part of the group. It was important, since it established how his stay with the Hakws changed him and his outlook for the better. He started to feel a bond to them, which is important to stress what he lost during the eclipse.
But hey, gotta focus on that extra long princess fuckscene instead.

The problem is that they tried to stay faithful to the manga instead of reworking the plot, and they did that by just omitting tons of shit to make it fit into a 3 movie time frame.
That just doesn't work because you lose too much of the story in the process. Most movies that are adapted from books don't just take the book and cross out all the stuff that won't fit and then go to production. They actually rework the plot in order to preserve all the necessary elements.
I kind of think it's probably Miura's fault because he didn't want them changing his stuff around and didn't realize how much it would hurt the story to castrate it the way they had to.

Actually, the dub actors seemed to have a level of effort unusual for the time.
That they did outtakes and scheduled things so the actors could be in the SAME ROOM as each other while doing scenes was remarkable.

Same shit depending on what site you use. I know Kissmanga drops significantly in quality right around Eclipse which is unforgivable because you need to read those in the best quality imaginable.
I'd say Mangareader or Mangafox is fine enough to use, I'd just personally recommend getting a collection going if you're really liking Berserk.
