I don't understand how some people still somehow want this. Even if you say you think the ghost stuff is stupid, there was so much good with Spread I don't know why you'd want to ignore it (Aki-lovely and gay manipulator Ulith, Level 5s, Chiyori and Eldora focus, dominator Hitoe, Kurebayashi-sexual Hanayo (for both of them), dark Tama rage, and probably a ton more).

Because spread had so many awesome ideas and fucked all of them. The actual season was completely terrible and all of the neat ideas that seemed like they couldn't possibly fail on paper fell flat on their head because the show had no direction and the pacing was a disaster. There was maybe 3 decent episodes in the entire season and everything else was just pointless meandering and time-wasting.

Spread, like Infected, was character driven. This means that at any given point, if the characters don't know what to do next, they can only rely on themselves and what they know to progress the plot. It felt meandering because what the hell are Ruuko, Hitoe, and Yuzuki going to do against Mayu who doesn't even live on their plane? Plus for half the series you have Ruuko not wanting to battle at all. I do feel that in some aspects Spread was weaker than Infected, but overall I liked the thematic storytelling, the character interactions, and of course the overall direction and sound direction/music, which made it enjoyable even from an aesthetic perspective.

Given Okada is credited for scriptwriting, this means there won't be inconsistences in the whole story progression. I can't really wait to know more about all the whole stuff. My biggest bet is this what Okada wanted to do in Spread, but since it seems they have their problems with the producer it didn't happen. Okada has her particular way to work in series. When she writes something for scriptwriter/storyboarder/episode director she tends to make her draft as ambiguous as possible because she doesn't want directly tell people what to do. A reason for this is because she believes in that way she doesn't restraint people's creativity. That's is nice, but sometimes this can lead to several problems.
If you are watching Gundam Iron Blooded, there are several episodes in which a main character, Kudelia Aina Berstein, constantly keeps progressing and regressing in terms of character development. One can notice quickly when Okada is doing the scriptwriting. The thing is what Okada has build in the episodes she did the script is erased by the scriptwriter for the next episode and it doesn't feel like the character is going somewhere.
I don't remember if this happened in Spread too, but at least this movie won't be a problem in terms of character consistency. At least we can believe.

I do enjoy G-tekketsu a lot, but it bothers me Okada can't stop pulling her usual character self-insert in Kudelia, in short, the usual girl who doesn't know about the real world and such. Kudelia and her development reminds me so much to characters like Mayu from WIXOSS, Mahmu from M3, Nako from Hanasaku Iroha and so on.
I seriously want to know what happened during her youth. She keeps forcing this kind of character in most of her series.

I loved Selector Infected WIXOSS. I thought it was by far the best anime of the season and it was the one that stuck with me the most from 2014.
However, ever since Spread it seems like the story has reached a point where all the mysteries have been thoroughly explained, all the character arcs have finished, and all we can get is more contrived "rules of the selector universe" stuff.
I might be wrong and I sincerely hope I am.

This is interesting because we know "white" is represented as more of a sky blue in the Selector universe, so the battlefield seems to have a colour that we've never seen before.

This would imply some kind of alternate timeline where Episode 12 didn't happen, since she seems to have dressed that way in imitation of Eldora, right? So did Eldora become her LRIG again? Were they just too lazy to redesign the characters?

It kind of reminded me of that episode of Shirobako where they realize that they're supposed to make a PV and have to throw something together on short notice. Wouldn't surprise me if some behind-the-scenes bullshit meant that they had to make a PV full of TV series footage just because nothing was ready or something.

I'm beginning to think something about the whole direction in Spread and Infected. Perhaps Infected had more structure in terms of directing meanwhile Spread and more from: this, then this happens and so on.
I wish I could rewatch it soon, because there were stories running at the same time in Infected, meanwhile in Spread we had to follow Ruuko the whole time and it was boring, except episod 2.

Is it crazy that the slice-of-life scenes in the original series were some of my favourite parts? I really did want them to just have fun at the card tournament in Episode 5. And the early stuff where the girls were talking about deck building and having to find rare cards to work with their strategies really brought me back to my childhood playing MTG.
