How strong were little Trunks and Goten?
I would hazard a guess at around Android 17/18. That one special with tarble had them fighting off warriors as strong as frieza, and they did so pretty handily, like future trunks did.
With the new retcons in Super probably about as strong as Gohan when he fought the saiyans

I dunno. I think it stands to reason they'd be just as strong as at least Freeza saga Gohan if not android saga. Gohan was only 4-5 for the first part of the series and he fuckin' wrecked raditz with no training. Goten and trunks, while not incredibly well honed have still practiced fighting by copying their siblings/parents and implied to have fought each other.

Calm down there. He got one lucky shot off and then started crying. The thing about saiyans is they represent the typical shounen protag. They have the power to get stronger just from getting beaten up, and they have the super saiyan form that's the character bringing out their "inner strength" literally just out of their asses. Gohan pulled that performance clean out of his ass, had nothing to do with anything other than his latent potential power, not his actual combat prowess.

From what I understand, becoming a supersaiyan is less about strength and more about being pure. Goten and trunks are the kind of kids that wear their hearts on their sleeves. Gohan on the other hand has a lot of conflicting emotions holding him back from his true power because it scares him. Of course that brings up the question "why didn't kid Goku go super saiyan" with the only answer to that being "Toriyama hadn't thought of it yet".

SSJ is not a fixed powerlevel, it's a temporary power boost. The actual strength of the Super Saiyan depends on the strength of the base form and the ability to use energy efficiently.
I doubt Goten or Trunks would be able to trash full power Frieza.
Trunks struggled in 150x gravity in his base form. He's probably about as strong as Ginyu saga Goku while not Super Saiyan. While transformed he's probably stronger than base Goku during the Frieza fight but weaker than 20x Goku. Goten is slightly weaker than trunks.
We know for certain that without fusion they're weaker than Piccolo, since after Buu abosrbed them and Gotenks' fusion ran out of time, Buu's costume became Piccolo's instead of Trunk's or Goten's.
