Compared to many swords, it's sharp, often larger swords weren't so much sharpened as they were formed into a wedge, without an edge actually being applied. That it cuts in like that implies that it was at least formed with the intention of it having a proper edge. The thing also really shouldn't be the least bit sharp though due to the amount of crap he puts it through, bashing your way through stone buildings will ruin the edge of any sword. And the fight before he catches her with the sword is no exception for crap the sword was put through that would remove an edge until it's unrecognizable.
