Growing up, all the kids around me were into Naruto. Being the insufferable faggot I was, I refused to try and get into it because it was popular. I was really surprised to hear when it ended, I was under the impression it was going to be One Piece tier in length, since I didn't know better. I finally gave in, and decided to read it to see what it was all about.
I really enjoyed the heck out the first part. Some really memorable arc were Chunin Exams and Sasuke Retrieval, which were engaging the whole way through, but all the arcs were actually pretty good. I was pretty surprised with how entertained I was.
Shippuden started of pretty strong too, I remember specifically really liking the first chapter, and the Jiraya's fight against the Pains. To me, it's around when Naruto started training with Jiraya's shoulder frog things that I felt the series started declining in quality. The story just got less interesting, and -here's by biggest gripe- a lot of interesting characters were thrown away, and forgotten. Personally, I wanted to know more about the rest of the ninjas in Konoha like Rock Lee, Neji, Shino, Gaara etc. to be more involved in the story. Kind of like how Kishimoto handled Shikamaru's level of involvement. I thought one of Naruto's strengths was its strong cast, so that kinda ruined it for me. I mean, There are some good moments in Shippuden, like the Sasuke's final fight with Itachi, the arcs where they introduced Izanagi and Izanami, and especially the backstory of the First Hokage and Madara- all of those were great. But overall, Shippuden just got worse and worse, then ended in one giant shitfest with the Shinobi War and ultimately, Kaguya. It really felt like Kishimoto was rushing things.
So overall, very strong start with Naruto but it slowly fell off with Shippuden, though Shippuden did have its moments. At the very least, now I understand the hype behind Naruto. , and I admit it does deserve a lot of the praise it got.

There's no denying it, by the Pain arc Kishi was just growing tired of the whole thing. People call him a shit writer, but I think the reason Naruto stopped trying to develop characters outside of Team 7, Akatsuki and a few other heroes and villians was because Kishi stopped giving a fuck.

Naruto had potential, and with the short battles and innovative abilities at the beginning, it had potential. I don't think that they realize the reason why people enjoy HxH, FMA, etc. more is because the fights are quick and rely on thinking as well as power. Then again, it outsells all of those pretty much except for maybe One Piece, so I guess they do still attract an audience even when they're critical failures, and that's all that really matters to a company.

It was entertaining enough all the way until after the kage summit arc. All the jesus bullshit and fated reincarnations as well as mandatory juubi revival was too much. While shippuden is generally considered to be the beginning of the decline of the series it still has it's saving graces. Akatsuki were interesting and personally I found Sasuke psychopath shenanigans as well as his team to be entertaining. Then it all just kind of got tossed away in favor of big bads and muh prophesies. If anything series should've stopped gaining in power levels after the kage summit and ended with a climatic fight between new team 7 and team taka.

Naruto is a gateway anime of the worst kind. It's a bad series, a clusterfuck of story and characterization that isn't very well done by any aspect, but which attempts to compensate for its weaknesses by adding in excessive shipping faggotry and DARKNESS. The normal anon can see this as the shit it is, and may enjoy it, hate it or be indifferent to it, but all the while recognizing that the series itself, regardless of their opinion, is plain bad.
However, these very aspects that try to smear over the shit of its core make it a breeding ground for aspie, unsociable underageb& faggots who engage in every kind of faggotry both online and in the real world. The superpowered characters all trying their hardest to look cool, the jutsus, peculiar, colorful clothes, the whole ninja faggotry and everything about the Naruto world fuels their escapist fantasies, while the pity-party character backgrounds, emphasis on revenge, and overall preachiness of the series make it fit just right with the mary-sueish drives of your average preteen and his sense of unwarranted self-importance towards the world. Exactly the kind of shit that makes little kiddies and underageb& retards eat this shit right the fuck up.
Naruto is basically THE series to attract the most hated anime fanbase known to /a/, which is why, regardless of individual opinions, it is the responsibility of every anon to troll the fuck out of this show and everyone who likes it, and ensure that no Naruto threads ever encourage the newfriends to show their faces here.
