What made the second season so unsatisfying?

Because people don't realize that the show was made as fanservice to the people who read the VN.

Only secondaries and nitpicky faggots think it was a bad or dumbed down showing.

Split cour kills this.

Wait, Cu is with Illya? The fuck?

No hour long specials. Archer vs. Shirou should have been one hour long bout.

So they could lock arms back to back and do nothing for another 40 minutes?
>>
>>133546257
Put your trip on.

The second season had better episodes than the first.

What episodes in season 1 reach the levels of 17, 20, 24, and 25?

Maybe 0?
>>
>>133546257
Wow, so you're telling us the VN that is long as fuck has better characterization than the animu? why I never would have guessed until this faggot pointed it out! the scales have truly fallen from my eyes thanks to you faggot.

Contrary to what you may think, people can have different opinions than you, and aren't insidiously trying to troll.

I watched episodes from season two way more often than the first, sans episode 0.

Hell, I watched episode 20 over ten times.

>>133546142
The plot's there, but the characters are all over the place.

What?

Honestly you're saying nothing here, other than being mildly shocked that someone enjoys things that you don't.
>>
>>133547670
That's the only good episode in the second season. I personally rewatched the Last Stardust part at least 30 times.
>>
>>133547928
You didn't like #22? I found it to be the most memorable and exciting episode of the show.
>>
>>133547928
There were plenty of great episodes in the second season, and plenty of great scenes overall.

I mean I watched the Gil fight just as much, the epilogue was just fantastic for someone who wanted to finally see stuff with the Clock Tower, and stuff like Gae Bolg vs Rho Aias were just impressive looking to watch.

You mean an image created by a person who has a massive, absolutely unreasonable hateboner for the UBW anime, and treats Miura's name like the fucking Boogieman?
>>
>>133548308
Not that guy, but the weakest episode of the show for me was probably like, episode 9?

Can you remember anything from that episode?
>>
>>133548240

To develop the thematic and nuanced nature of the scene without it being choppy. It's a pivotal moment for Shirou and Archer. The rest of UBW doesn't function without it.
>>
>>133548339
Yeah, it was the one where Shirou has gay sex with Issei and sneaks around the Matou house.

The worst episodes by far for me were #22, #18 and #25.
>>
>>133548308
Caster's episode. Or should I say her master's episode, because they removed the backstory that actually focused on Caster for the sake of repeating the simple point that her master was shit.
>>
>>133548379
>#25

What? That was one of the best episodes of the series. It was a proper epilogue to the story, unlike just leaving us hanging in the school in the VN.
>>
>>133548423
How did they leave anything hanging? Shirou and Rin headed towards a future of infinite possibility, a perfect ending for a story like UBW.

The anime epilogue was nice but had no place in the show, they should have sold it as an OVA and added everything they cut from Nasu's script.
>>
>>133548360
and they succeeded without making it overly wrong

Nasu himself talked about how the original ending to the route was incomplete, because he wanted people to move on Heaven's Feel after that. The anime had no obligation on that front, considering HF is still years away.

The anime epilogue gives you a solid answer on Shirou and Rin's future, and while adding in everything Nasu wanted would have been nice, most of what they cut wasn't exactly essential. I mean read through this.

You can freely stop watching at episode 24 though, if that's what you want the ending to be.
>>
>>133546142
Shirou vs archer isn't that good. The rest was alright.
>>
>>133548582
Nasu talks about a lot of things, frankly. I read an interview where he completely misunderstood Kara no Kyoukai, his own story.

In terms of what they cut the ending is the most obvious problem, and you can't stop with episode 24 because it doesn't have the graduation stuff.
>>
>>133546142
Realta Nua version put a damper on it for me.
No, I didn't expect it to break out into porn, but Transplanted Crest was a terrible replacement and Ufotable didn't do anything to fix it

>>
>>133548717
It doesn't have the graduation stuff, but the story's still basically done.

To Nasu though, he wanted the story to feel like he made an ending to UBW, not just asking you to move on to HF. Here's what he exactly said.

>I think you'll see why the stage moved for #25 if you watch it.
>To our viewers who have followed us for two seasons, it's not because "we're shifting to the Sakura route next," but because we wanted to give you "the continuation of UBW."

I feel like the only thing in this image the anime didn't convey was the fact that Shirou is actually fucking with Rin half the time.

He wanted him to be more stoic, and less emotional.

What guy? Nasu?

Yeah, he tended to have his finger in the pie when it came to this adaptation.
>>

I know all of this already, and it's a combination of his bad contributions to the UBW anime, laziness in getting Tsukihime out and the awful Garden of Avalon novel that make me no longer take him seriously.

My biggest problem with the anime was lack of Illya.

Lots of stuff. Around 25~ or so minutes of new animation, with 10 of it being dedicated to a Sunny Day OVA, and the rest being additions to various episodes. Off the top of my head, we're talking 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 21, and 24 all getting new stuff.

Plus there were a few continuity fixes, and some touched up general animation.

Because there was not only a noticeable drop in quality, but a rushed shift in tone.

It didn't help that the main UBW episodes (20 and 21 I think?) had QUALITY everywhere and were paced really poorly. I mean, they could've at least aired it as one hour or something.

ALso, it turned Gil into a retard by not only changing the context of the fight, but the actual interactions in it with Shirou spamming Rho Aias and flying around.

>>133549478
I don't think the problem with that webm was the animation? It was the directing. The bounce was terrible.

In comparison the Last Stardust scene didn't have much animation but worked on solid design. I mean that CGI smoke is definitely not winning any awards.
>>
>>133549478
>The animation wasn't even "shitty"
It looks godawful compared to everything else. I absolutely lost my shit when Shirou actually bounced off the ground and couldn't take the fight seriously.

It didn't help that they still kept in Archer's line about how if he backed off, Shirou would fall over and die, when just seconds before Shirou was jumping around like a spazz.

>No one would do that for any other anime.
Because ufotablefags hyped up the fight to no end. Then it turned out to be pretty mediocre right after the amazing episode 20.

ufotable has a really bad problem with forcing CGI into everything (probably to cover expenses) and half the time the CGI looks like something an intern came up with.

What's the studio that did the CCC opening? That one was great and showcased some excellent animation - they should be contracted to do some TM original like Last Episode.
>>
>>133549615
Shaft

They worked on Madoka Magica
>>
>>133549577
>It looks godawful compared to everything else. I absolutely lost my shit when Shirou actually bounced off the ground and couldn't take the fight seriously.

You absolutely lost your shit at a 10 second shot of someone doing a little bounce.

I mean gain some perspective. I just find it fucking ridiculous that close to half a year later, we have people bitching over a couple of seconds of animation. And it's like, the only thing people bring up.

>Because ufotablefags hyped up the fight to no end

Man we had people worried about the outcome of the fight before the show even aired, but all things considered, I think they handled it decently overall.
>>
>>133549438
-- In other words, "Fate" titles are already out in the world in many different forms already, so you didn't think it was necessary to use the Saber Route that comprises the first story of the original?

Nasu: That's right. To put it another way, the Saber Route at this point, we ought to make some significant alterations. If we want to keep the plot as-is, the Rin Route is more suitable, and it will seem fresh. It's the most solid of all Fate/stay night, with combat and buildup, and unorthodox approaches. And on top of that, if we could present the themes of the Rin Route across two seasons as a single, long story, it would definitely be worth doing. It's suitable for a weekly format where the story would build up episode by episode, but I also want the audience to occasionally see it as "a long story that deals with a single theme." Mr. Miura, the director felt the same, so we decided to give it a shot even though the bar would be set pretty high.

-- True, when it becomes a show where themes that figure into the Fate/stay night title as a whole come to the forefront, especially in the first half. What was your approach to depicting that in the form of an animated TV series?

Nasu: Personally, I think that it's impossible to fully convey the quality of the game. That's not me giving up, but rather that I think that they're two entirely different things. So rather than it being a question of how to adapt the game, I thought we should start off by deciding what to cut out. We'd carve it down to its bare bones and then graft uniquely anime flesh onto its skeleton. That's the process that I wanted to help with. It was the director, Mr. Miura, who had the visions of what it was going to be like during the adaption process, so if he said, "I want more brachial muscles here," I would say, "Let's add more, then" and add away. I think I was pretty committed to that process.
>>
>>133549615
Kara no Kyoukai did CGI right, the others not so much.

CCC's opening was animated by SHAFT.
>>
>>133549679
>You absolutely lost your shit at a 10 second shot of someone doing a little bounce.
I lost my shit at that entire segment, yes.

Like I said, episode 20 was amazing. Then the first thing we see in 21 was that shitty fight then it basically ended. It was a complete rollercoaster of quality and poor directing.

I would've preferred it they stuck with the VN if they're going to make a flashy fight that shitty.

Ufotable's CGI direction for their Type-Moon works are strange, it's like they aren't interested in making the CG blend in with the hand-drawn stuff. The CGI in their other shows like Majokko and Naoko-san blends in better.

Majokko is really beautiful. I will never get over the fact that Hirao didn't direct UBW.

I heard Ufotable's contract with Type Moon ends after HF, and it'd probably be for the best if their collaborations end there.
>>
>>133549829
I remember once reading that the use of CG there is occasionally an outright thematic choice.

Like, the reason Berserker was CG in Fate/Zero, was because they wanted to represent the "otherworldly" quality he had, and how people couldn't really comprehend what he looked like.

Using that logic, I can understand why UBW was CG too. It's an actual other world.
>>
>>133549781

>>133549899
>I heard Ufotable's contract with Type Moon ends after HF
There is no public knowledge of how their relationship works, and if anything anime adaptations are handled on a case-by-case basis.

>>133549960
To be fair, Hirao got screwed over by UBW's production. The studio was cutting it close with the show's second half and had no time to prepare for GE.
>>
>>133549990
It looked so much better in a set of openings that probably had about as much budget as a whole episode of UBW?
>>
>>133549849
Like I said, it's about the context.

21 starts off with a terrible fight, a silly charge by Shirou, then it just kind of ends. It really magnifies the issue that would've normally been minor had it been all one episode.
>>
>>133549990
UBW in the Realta Nue OP was CGI too, but with a different texture applied. They shouldn't have changed the art direction.
>>
>>133550012
There were no sources, I just heard an anon make an offhand comment about it. Sounded pretty believable considering ufo's current state and TM bringing in studios like A1 and Shaft for game openings.

Claymores are real and commonly used weapons. The giant buster swords in 21 look dumb.

Because the swords used in the church scene are taller than 159 cm girl, to the point of where you can't even see their hits, and are as wide as her face. There is not practical use for that as a weapon.

The big thing here is whether or not we're criticizing how large they are, or just how they look. In which case, dude it's fucking anime. You think those swords wildly out of line with the tone of Type Moon andits weapons?

You're trying to take this argument off-track.

Those swords look dumb for what Archer is doing and are widely impractical. There's no reason why he should use them at all when fighting Shirou, especially not 'getting serious' like you claimed, either.

It's laughable for the same reason why DEEN's giant sword was mocked.

If he wanted the guy to die he didn't, read the VN, he would've just fired a wall of regular swords so Shirou can't parry them all with one hand. What the fuck is the point of firing 4 gigantic and easily evadable buster swords?

You're the one who keeps regurgitating yourself, my friend. Those swords are twice the size of Rin, and yet you seemingly have no problem with them, but when similar sized ones are used later, it's a big deal?

>If he wanted the guy to die he didn't, read the VN

Yes anon, I know plenty about the Archer fight, you don't even have to mention anything, but in that particular moment, Archer was annoyed, because he was remember scenes from his past and declaring his desire to be a hero in front of Kerry. This is all shown in the scene in the anime. Just before he fires the swords, pic related, he gets annoyed from this, and tells him to die.

>Oh, so you haven't been on /a/ that long. This explains everything.

I like how this isn't even a response to anything I said.

How? Those swords are about as long as the ones he uses in 21, it's just the ones in 21 were thicker.

>He was annoyed in the VN too, but he didn't really want to kill Shirou

He wanted to destroy Shirou's psyche, and then kill him, but killing him was always firmly on the table. In this scene, he was frustrated that Shirou wasn't backing down, and wanted to hurt him even more.

>firing gigantic swords is completely counter productive to killing Shirou

Shirou was deflect regular swords, so Archer threw bigger ones. It's not rocket science.

>But it is. It was mocked for the size and usage, sticking out of the back was something minor.

But it just hanging in the guy's back is the only reason to mock it. I mean there's nothing really wrong about it other than it sticking in his back.

They turned a noble multidimensional character like Gil into a one-dimension cartoon villain.

They also wanked Shirou too hard, allowing him to fly in the air in UBW. They should have limited his superpowers to Projection.
