I guess that law passed on anime and manga bootlegging and exporting is winning out in the end. Manga scans have slowed down to a trickle, scanlators and translators are becoming too frightened to fight against laws. Users are pretty much the same or worse, they feel too entitled to learn Japanese but still want their spoonfeed subs and TLs. And Funimation has been stepping it up with their near complete monopoly on fansubs. Even if we were to have another really good manga TLing site, in our era of social networking where people never even heard of rules 1 and 2, it would never stay underground for too long.

Generals on /a/ are kind of complicated. There are enough to be kind of annoying, but not nearly enough to warrant a board split. Who's to say how often you should make a thread about something? These generals are active and staying alive, so obviously people want to discuss this shit, right? So naturally there will be threads. Hell, maybe generals contribute (in some cases) to avoid clutter, since otherwise we might see 2-3 disorganized One Piece threads instead of one definitive general. Keeping it to one general helps out with this and also makes it way easier to filter out shit you don't want to see.
On the other hand, these threads can sometimes be 60% image dumping and breed cancerous circlejerking.
I'd say right now it's not bad enough to warrant action, but that's just me. I'd welcome a limit on generals, but how would that be dictated? It wouldn't be long before you have people getting pissed at mods for deleting their threads because they didn't know a similar one hit bump limit earlier today. What do you guys think?
