The identity crisis is in the past, this was handled in the HM arc, the FB arc and it ended with Ichigo acknowledging Zangetsu as his sword.
Now Ichigo has to face his fate and what he is. Can you imagine that we're 650 chapters in and NO ONE can give a clear answer on what Ichigo's power is, not even Ichibei?
Yhwach changes his mind about his plans with Ichigo every second chapter or so, so it's reasonable to assume that he can't see shit from Ichigo's future and he's just faking it to save face, to not alert him.
