In between the gaps of the arms covering her face, a hint of a blush could
be seen. Her embarrassment was not just restricted to her words.
Seeing this oddly adorable appearance, Mizuki sighed deeply.

bottom of my heart”.”
“While I’m not sure if it’s from the bottom of my heart, the first part is
true.”
Mizuki rolled her eyes in response to the sharp glance Erika sent her way
from beneath her fingers.

Mizuki shifted herself so she was right in front of Erika (she just changed
the orientation of her seat) before reaching out and plucked away the arms

Ichijou was drained after his little exhibition match in vol 4, the girl Mayumi was playing against in crowd ball forfeited due to low psions, Honami died due to it and Miya became incredibly sick from overuse which later lead to her death. The psion body is the soul and when you run out of psion reserves you consume that to cast, the effects are as you can imagine fatal. A high psion count is valuable as fuck, what it is not however, is a measure of magic power.

There isn't a character that could possibly be more valuable other than perhaps a clan heir because they bring an entire organisation with them.

There's nothing suggesting the entire Yotsuba tried to kill him, we just know that some people in the clan did. There was likely mixed opinion on what to be done with him due to unknown reasons.
