A typical female soldier is not as strong as a typical male soldier. It's entirely unrealistic that she beat on so many men no problem. Here is my point: This show stresses the power of modern weaponry, and this is its appeal: As you read, you keep wondering what would happen if the Itami & Co. went out of bullets. After all, Rory is capricious. Having the good guys suddenly fight on the natives' terms would have allowed for some very dramatic and nailbiting situations but all that is thrown out the window when the girl goes into either some kind of martial trance or the royal guards are actually peasants who bullshitted their way to the position. Guess we'll never know.

A person trained in BJJ will mostly ALWAYS, ALWAYS manage to fuck up a person not trained in it while fighting on the ground with no weapons. No matter the difference in strenght, no matter the skill in brawl. And guess what? BJJ has been "invented" quite recently.
You probably had some guys back in the day that ended up noticing that "Hey, if I do this lever on the opponent arm, it's pretty effective", but it probably was an individual discovery, not organized in systematic training nor discipline by anyone.

He's already got basically no authority with Japan in place. The Japanese can put up pretenses to be humane and fair all they want, but the fact is they are the ones with the guns, and they're obviously taking him for a ride and offering terms that are overwhelmingly favorable for themselves while the locals benefit only mildly.
