To the guy wanting to decrypt Comic Walker files from Android, I can officially say that it's not practical at all. They went out of their way to make it practically impossible for someone else to to come and figure it out. I looked into it quite a bit to see if it was actually feasible, but they've hidden it behind compiled object files and shared libraries and a bunch of data about your device in hard to distinguish manner. I know it uses AES, but what goes in as input is hard to know and I don't know if they have a straight implementation of t, or something hidden behind the compiled code.
>>
>>113292657
I don't see any of these yellow spots you're talking about.
>>
>>113296032
Is it possible to get the files the good ol' memory dumping way?
>>
>>113297045
I'm not sure what you mean by that.

I mean, I could probably write a patched version of the app which is simply cracked and either:
a. Sets the encryption variables to things I'll know.
b. Writes out the files somewhere else.
c. Writes out what the encryption variables are.

I imagine a. would be the better option. But I haven't done much stuff like this before. I've only patched something before but with a very well defined guide. This would simply be me writing in bytecode.
>>
>>113297229
http://forums.e-hentai.org/index.php?showtopic=92167

Take this DMM ripper for example, it determines where the decrypted images are stored in process' memory and dumps them while it's running. Of course this is kind of a lame way to un-DRM things but it works and is lossless.
>>
>>113298513
This would be on a mobile. I have no idea how different it is. I mean, there's already a way to rip them simply from the online interface. Seems like a lot more effort than it's worth.

You won't burn the book unless you put it in for like 60 seconds.

Put it in for like 15-30 until the cover starts opening up, then check it and microwave in 10-15 segments until it's hot enough to take stuff out.

NEVER leave it in long enough that the pages are curling in on themselves or turning brown.

tl;dr don't be stupid
>>
>>113304674
It always sucks to have someone doing it faster than you, but that's how it is. I've been on both ends of the issue. Sometimes it's worth doing the HQ if you know people will be reading it, and sometimes it's not, if you're driving yourself insane trying to keep up.

You don't hear fansubbers complaining that a shit group did it faster than them.

Then again, the people who download anime usually have a lot of options for groups and thus actually choose one over the other. Manga readers usually just go with whatever's fastest since they're not used to having to deal with choice.

It's really a pity.

> What's taking so long?
Well, I like translating so I'm mostly translating stuff (I think I got about fifteen translated volumes of various series' I haven't even started cleaning yet). I like redrawing because it's challenging. Typesetting is simply boring to me. But now I'm going vigorously to finish it before anime adaptation starts since I'm going to be translating that, too. There are already two shit groups planning to translating it in my country and they will most likely drop it after a few episodes but I believe that Iwaaki deserves a decent translation.

Also, since I'm focusing on high-quality scanlation, I'm always waiting for volume scans but I'm struggling to find good raws for some projects I'm already releasing so I'm going to buy a scanner in a few months and going to get into scanning. Hopefully, it won't be too long since I will be able to scan Iwaaki's Black Jack manga. Since he's my favourite author and I love Tezuka.

>>
>>113311108
Typeset before redrawing and you'll have less of a bad time.
>>
>>113311471
I kind of wish we did this so I wouldn't spend time redrawing things that are just going to get covered up. But then again it gives the typesetter a bit more freedom in positioning things and choosing styles and such if you do the redrawing first, right? If I were doing a solo project, that's definitely how I would do it though. Too bad I don't speak moon.

You mean the blacks are overleveled?

The resolution is 1400 height, so I think it's from a pub raw. The ones that were being worked on before were from a french source with better scans.

IDK where the translator/scanner went, but we did finish chapter 4 and chapter 5 (pretty much.)

I don't understand what you are getting at. The scanner was scanning his personal copy. It was a french source. He was scanning as we finished chapters, meaning he didn't scan the entire book. The scanner went MIA. Hence no complete french source scan. If there is a public scan of the french source, that's another story.

You know what the best way to show people how hard you work is?

Make a video of a hard redraw or a typeset, then put it on your website along with the release.

I did that a few times and it was like magic.

4&5 did get translated and typeset (everything was done except a few sfx weren't set.) The problem is that the other person went MIA and I am not gonna release it on my own (also never had access to the blog he was running.)

The current releases are using the JP pub raw scans, which are 1400 height, but with a comic like cat soup, you're probably not losing that much.

I think it's just a situation where you're trying to fill in the gaps of why certain things weren't done and I'm not spending paragraphs explaining why.

After I cleaned up 4 and 5 the other person sent it to me typeset, but I didn't get back to them for a while since I got busy with other projects. When I did get back to them, they didn't respond (I guess they just stopped checking the email they had set up specifically for the project.) Though I have better scans of chapter 2-5, I'm not about to use the guys scans or release them on my own. Also if I wanted to translate it JP -> Eng I could do that myself.

>>113319308

>A lot of groups have dedicated redrawers now-a-days
Well I'm a newbie, but I came into this thinking cleaners didn't do redraws and I learned quickly that they do. I think it's important that people don't make that mistake because these past couple threads have undoubtedly piqued some people's interests in getting involved. If you want to clean you should be ready and willing to do redraws.

Thankfully I work on an easy series so there's nothing crazy, but it's still a challenge for me and I think it's a good first step before I think about trying to join a real group.
>>
>>113319729
Yea I totally agree, I was just pointing out that some people are led to believe that because a group has redrawers they don't have to do ANY redraws when they are only really around to do the really difficult redraws. I feel bad for our groups redrawer, despite the groups size we only have really have 1 guy who does them and people waste his time with such easy redraws.
>>
>>113319252
>develop those artistic skills.

Honestly it doesn't even feel like artistic skills. It's more like attention to detail and lots of free time. Most of it is already there for you and all you really need to do is fill in the blanks. Pen tool makes smooth curves because I can't. Clone stamp will fill in screentones.

You just need to dial it back. And maybe instead of just throwing Topaz at it, try doing some things manually first. A surface blur can help reduce noise.and make it easier to get your blacks black and whites white without having to level as much.
>>
>>113320264

Being 2 months behind on a monthly series that's in a magazine that's ending so there's going to be a gap in time before when it's possible to catch up isn't a big deal. Fallen Syndicate does a fine job on Dorohedoro and they don't even ask for donations on the chapters, only their site. If you're resorting to using GoogleTL then you're really not going to give the work a worthwhile representation. If you want to speed up the scans that badly, just go apply to help for the series and do it that way.

For today's topic I'd like to propose "Why the fuck are using so much different fonts despite the raw not having as much variety."
Really, why people use different font for shouts while in the raw it's the same dialogue font, just bold and big. Panel speaks for itself, you don't need any other shit you personally think is appropriate to stylize just to emphasize what's happening.
>>
>>113321228
Because while it may look fine in Japanese it doesn't look good in English, it's simple as that.
>>
>>113321268
Wild Words looks fine for 80% of dialogue.
>>
>>113321228
>>113321312
This was brought up earlier, there just aren't near as many Japanese fonts and the publishers probably don't care about it near as much as scanlators, so they just go with what works.
>Wild Words looks fine for 80% of dialogue.

>>
>>113321228
In my few years of cleaning I've seen the nips use many fonts as I've seen typesetters I've work with use, which is well over 30.

>while in the raw it's the same dialogue font, just bold and big.
I've also seen them many times use a different type of font, which is much thicker, for shit like that. Especially when it's outside bubbles in the backgrounds.
>>
>>113321380
How many fonts can you possibly want? A font for shouts, a cutesy font, a font for cellphones/computers, a font for handwritten stuff, a scary font and use fitting fonts for stuff like titles and taglines and such.

Everything else you use Wild Words.

>>113321864
The only group I can think of that still uses Anime Ace is FoolRulez but they are pretty much dead so I don't know if I should count them. It seems like CCMeanwhile has been a trend for a year or 2.
>>
>>113321774
If the autor uses a different font for bit of text I'm going to stick with the autor's choice and use a font that matches what was used.
>>
>>113321864
I'm still seeing plenty of new releases with it, often from official sources like Crunchy to boost.
>>
>>113321975
Authors barely ever choose the fonts, it's usually their editors that do all the typesetting unless the mangaka does things digitally. What they hand in is all handwritten.
>>

>>113321852
>I really wish people stopped forcing CC Astro City
It's a good font for dialogue in a very small number of cases, but otherwise I think it's pretty good for either thoughts, TL notes, or any translations of things for which you aren't going to remove the JP text and instead leave a note beside the panel (SFX and maybe some signs, for example).

>>113321622
>>113321774
I use different fonts for standard dialogue depending on the manga, of which Wild Words is usually tolerable, but often an inferior choice that can kill the atmosphere of a given work. Also, you need fonts for titles and fonts for shouts, both of which could vary depending on the manga and may even need different ones in the same manga. You'll also need fonts to fit certain styles, a few handwriting fonts, fonts for thoughts, narration, notes, etc
>>
>>113322425
Did you read what I posted?
>A font for shouts, a cutesy font, a font for cellphones/computers, a font for handwritten stuff, a scary font and use fitting fonts for stuff like titles and taglines and such.

I'll occasionally use a different shouting font if it's very clear in the raw that it's a different kind of shout than what I typically use, as for thoughts I just use Wild Words with italics.

>>
>>113322605
I probably should have stated my point more explicitly. The point is that the choice of font for standard dialogue or shouts or whatever can be dependent on the manga you're working on. The way you're getting around this is by using fairly nondescript fonts like Wild Words, but as I said, this just looks plain and can kill the atmosphere. Just pick a few fonts for a series before you start work on it and add more if you need them, but don't always fall back on the same few fonts.
