PTSD is a pretty horrifying one, a friend of mine was in a gang most of his life, watched one of his closest friends get shot to death right in front of him, every night since then he's relived it in his sleep.

That would be fucked up enough, but after a while he started becoming lucid during these nightmares, so he'd attempt to wake up, which manifested in him actually fighting in the real world while completely asleep, he trashed his own room multiple times before finally going to a doctor for it, they didn't believe him until he trashed the room they left him sleeping in, then when guards were called to stop him, he knocked a few out, all while completely asleep.

They put him on some medication that suppresses his ability to physically freak out, but it doesn't stop the nightmares at all, it just makes it harder for him to wake up from them. He says because he spends all night fighting to wake up, once he finally does wake up he still feels tired.

Couldn't imagine anything more fucked up than that, really.

People may automatically assume that because the girls are developmentally like newborns (or so "they" say) that they're incapable of having "normal" reactions to their surroundings. Or they may think that they have no personality or no ability to show how they feel. Or they may wrongly believe that they're "not in there" or "a vegetable" or maybe even not worthy of life. (Don't EVEN get me started... That's why I moderate the comments on this blog. There are some evil people out there who can kiss my ass.)

I must confess (SO sorry to rat you out, my little "angels!")... Claire & Lola are soooo 11.5 & 6.5 years old (and all that each age entails!). They are very much siblings. They are definitely capable of fighting, drama, sibling rivalry, and "talking back" to their parents and/or brother. They don't hesitate to express themselves and their feelings. They may be non-verbal, but their thoughts are definitely HEARD. They are mouthy, emotional, silly, and I swear to GOD, they get my humor. They show love, they comfort one another and us, they respond to their surroundings, and they most definitely know us/know they're loved/know they run this household/know they're "the shit"/know they're the founding OG's of the WSD (West Side Dwarves)/etc. That's the bidness, man. (Shout out to Snoop D-O-double G!!!!! Our girls are *SO* not on board with this whole "Snoop Lion" bullshit.)

Jesus

the worst part about that whole situation is how desperately the parents try and act like it's okay and that their kids aren't just scrambled eggs, when on the inside they're far more broken from spawning those things than any of us could imagine

Oh hey, I hate to break it to you, but jealousy is a dirty little bitch. Sorry, but it had to be said. But OH MY GOSH, it's soooo normal. I still catch myself saying things like, "Why couldn't both my girls have had Down Syndrome/no legs/super long legs/MS/MD/VD (HA!)/blindness/fill-in-the-blank-for-the-day instead? I might have rocked that harder!!!" It's pathetic and actually quite comical, but let yourself feel it. I remember seeing our girls when they were under a year old compared to other kiddos their age, and the differences were pretty drastic. I was so pissed that my girls couldn't sit up/crawl/smile/use their hands/nurse without major modifications/say "Mama"/shit without the help of The Shit Whisperer/work elaborate floor puzzles larger than their bodies... geesh, you name it. For a long time, I dreaded playgroups & get togethers with similarly-aged children. I would go, put on a happy face, gloss over any difficulties we were having, try to relate to their lives, then go home bawling because I felt so fucking out of touch. It was challenging on so many levels. I lost friendships, it stressed some family relationships, and I felt more alone than ever before.

I also wish I had found a way to get more sleep along the way. We spent a decade surviving on mere minutes to hours of sleep nightly. After developing health concerns of our own due to the physical toll that sleep deprivation takes on a body, we finally arranged to have nurses help care for our Lola at night. I cannot tell you how hard that was to do... to admit that I couldn't do it myself any longer, to show weakness, to entrust my child to a total stranger, to think that my child is drawing comfort from someone other than my husband or me... I felt like a failure. It was after I got a few weeks of sleep and my sanity/clear thinking returned that I realized this was one of the best decisions we ever made. It is SO DAMN HARD asking for help.

is it necessary to mock people who are trying their best to deal with the huge disappointment of knowing their children will never communicate while also having to put in constant care for them as though they were newborns? i really wonder why people feel the need to be so cynical all the time. if this is what they need to do to feel like it's worth it, then that's all there is to it. i'm sure you're not volunteering to take care of those "vegetables."
>>
>>16983215

I forget the name but there's this one disease which turns in damage to your body to bone. So if you bruise a part of your body or damage it slightly your body responds to the damage by repairing it with bone. As the person goes through their life the amount of extra bone that they're body is growing begins to restrict their movement. The new bone can fuse with existing bones, causing movement to be restricted. Imagine having new bone fusing with their jaw bone, preventing them from opening their mouths. The new bone can conflict with their organs too, crushing their lungs and shit.

The worst part is if doctors attempt to saw off any of the extra bone, the body responds by growing even more bone than before.

I've taken care of Alzheimer's patients. it differs from dementia in that episodes of dementia can come and go (sometimes at night it's common - "sun-downer's"). it's possible sometimes to reorient them though - they recommend you use the same cues/reminders for where they are/date/time, etc. - signs in their room, even. dementia can become severe though.

Alzheimer's is different. recent and short term memories are lost first - they'll forget if they took their meds or ate that day, and eat again, or take meds too many times.
they lose memories in reverse - the last year, the last two, the last twelve, the last twenty, and on and on. they will not remember having children, and won't recognize them - but it doesn't bother them exactly... they may be upset if they want to know where their spouse is, forgetting that they'd died. then they won't remember their spouse at all. they'll remember their siblings and parents.
you're not supposed to reorient an Alzheimer's patient - they won't remember, it won't make sense. if you told them their dad was dead, it'd confuse them, then they'd forget you told them.

one of my first patients in nursing school kept asking if i was her grandma! it's like their kids again.

with or without dementia/Alzheimer's, in my exp, the biggest factor in whether an elderly patient is happy/kind or sad/angry/mean is what they were like in life. but confusions no fun. the dementia patients have it rough. and it's hard and dangerous when an Alzheimer's patient forgets how to dress themselves and basic self-care things. and of course no one is happy when their mother doesn't know them any more, it's very hard on the families.

neurology is fascinating, stuff.

p.s. thanks to the anon for posting >>16983676

for real tho, I get what you're saying, but theses are REPTILE-HUMANS! and the parents have become able to cope pretty well, from what I've read of their blog (got there from this thread).

at least, giving them their life can help us better understand the brain and communication and awareness, right? I vote that they be allowed to be kids(pets) AND research subjects.

Personally I think it's all a matter of perspective, as their "Hell" is only relative to people not suffering from said illness, to them it may seem normal, humans have an uncanny resilience to adapt in all kinds of environments, weather and even forms, so the fact they are living (and kudos to the parents too) and enjoy somewhat of a life is a testament to the resilience of humanity imo.

Damn. Remind me earlier this year when my mom had drug-induced dementia episodes for about a week.

Complete change in demeanor, no idea what day it was, and would forget things I told her mere minutes later. Very difficult to deal with, and very sad. Had to call the police over it and they took her to the hospital, but nothing even happened there other than an angry letter from her doctor to her private psychiatrist.

Luckily she's off all the drugs now and is doing way better.

it's truly scary what damage drug abuse and addiction does to the brain. i know people are reluctant to call it a disease and feel it's the addict that's to blame. we know enough about brain function and neuroscience now that proves that an addict in active addiction has altered brain pathways and neurotransmitters - their brains' disease directly impacts the addicts ability to make decisions and choices. addicts' brains are wired to tell the addict that they need their drug before they need safety, love, etc.

no one chooses to become an addict. yes, an addict made the choice to try/do a potentially dangerous drug in the first place, but, i repeat, no one - no one- choose the life of misery and suffering and destruction that is addiction.

i'm glad your mom is one that made it, anon.

(didn't mean to start an addiction debate/no need to go off topic. it's a pretty scary situation how much drugs can devastate lives. and communities.)

I can actually believe that she was legitimately trying to put her out of her misery. Seeing them post things like "theres definitely a sisterly connection" and "shes innocent until she has her sister in her arms" makes me think that she could legitimately be doing a loving thing in trying to kill her sister, but the parents are too positive and optimistic to realise it

It's portuguese. Too lazy to translate the whole thing but at first she's just repeating "I'm feeling crazy! I'm feeling crazy! Take solace in the fact that the pig faced white girl will live on forever as an asshole who tried to be cool but failed hilariously to anyone above 12 years old because while that guy is ugly as fuck and has a mental disability he is at least blissfully ignorant of the fact and doesn't give a shit about getting made fun of, this picture, or anything else other than getting food and other simple creature comforts and will be relatively happy for most of his life. That girl on the other hand is not only ugly as fuck, inside and out, is most likely aware of that fact, will remain so, will only get fatter and uglier with age AND will eventually realize what an unfunny person she is for doing this and will live with the embarrassment for life. Might even have to explain this picture to her kids one day. I love it.

Karma takes care of shit like this but sometimes you can't help but sigh at non medicallly retarded people being fucking retarded.

You mean the butt crawl kid? Nothing. She's overweight, but other than that appears to be healthy. She's butt crawling. You never tried to do that as a kid? Not the most efficient way of moving about, but when you got floppy baby limbs, it's fun at least. She's just hyper and having fun. As for the language, honestly can't say. Clearly isn't English, but then again, the people talking in the vid aren't speaking English either, and you know how little kids can mangle language at that age. It's not so much demonic as it is the demented babblings of a fat floppy baby.

That son must have the easiest time getting girls.

"There's something I have to let you know before you come over for dinner. It's about my sisters. You're going to be a bit uncomfortable when you first meet them because they suffer from an incredibly rare illness that they have had since birth. They're still my sisters and I still love them. I just wanted to let you know because, uh, it's something that people have given me a hard time with in the past. I do what I can to love them and care for them and they're really the best little sisters a brother can have."

--

"OMG, they are precious," she said as her eyes became swollen with tears, "You're really brave. You're such a great older brother and you're so amazing to these little things. You know, I bet you're always so tired caring for them, maybe I can give you a massage later..."

"Yes, yes, I would like that. Yeah, caring for them is super hard. I'm just trying to do what I can to help out Ma and Pa".

*Mother guzzles white wine behind the breakfast bar in the kitchen. Lets out an unholy belch as the chardonnay drizzles down her chin*:

"BUuuUURP, yeah go fuck my son!!!! I want all my *belch* little angels to be happy".

"OMG noooooo that's not what I meant, teehee. I'm not a slut!"

"Nonsense, all white girls who are Americans are sluts. Go have fun you two".

--

*Son smoking a fat spliff and talking to his bro*

"Yeah dude, she totally fell for it. Sucks for her too because there was some really nice guy that she friendzoned the other day. Ah well, life goes on you know? Now who's next on my slut list... Becky, check, Susie, check, Samantha, check, ahhh here we have Melanie. Haha, gonna go talk to her now, see ya dude."

Pisses me off.

Not a disease, but more of a condition that I had about ten years ago for two weeks was this motherfucker called Akathisia that sort of came out of nowhere and wrecked my shit. It's sort of hard to describe, but it's like a really, really bad panic attack with a lot of physical symptoms. The biggest of which was the absolute inability to be still or be at rest. I was constantly in motion for about 15 hours of the day. I would pace back and forth and chain smoke cigarettes while my mind was filled with absolute dread, fear, and panic. I would pace and pace until my legs were so tired, that sitting down and letting them go numb was a form of relief. I couldn't eat and sleep was barely there, It was the damndest thing, whenever I tried to eat, i produced no saliva and the food just sort of dry crumbled in my mouth and was impossible to swallow. I had to eat moist, liquidy shit like soup and mashed potatoes. At night I tossed and turned and fell in and out of basic REM. I didn't even know it was a specific condition until a couple of years ago. I honestly thought I was having some next lever, extended anxiety attack. I wouldn't wish this shit on my worst enemies. Due to lack of sleep, food, and the overwhelming dread and physical exhaustion, I was seriously losing my mind. I went to my doctor and she put me on a strong dose of Effexor and a couple days later, I started coming out of it. It was probably the worst thing I've been through. I'm pretty sure it came from quitting Benadry cold turkey after taking large doses every night for years.

All that political bullshit in a typical media pisses me the fuck off.
>MailOnline has chosen not to show the video due to its distressing nature.
Really? Really? Why the fuck tell people about something horrifying and unimaginable to public
if you're not going to connect to them by showing them the actual thing? It's like some kid telling you a story, then cuts off halfway and says that's all you need to know and you're expected to know. I don't know how to explain this but fuck me, the media is pathetic, so are the mindsets of people.

>After the heartbreaking story appeared in the press, top doctors in the country have agreed to take on his case.
Too late perhaps??? Why the fuck do you come and offer your best help when people are sensationalized? It's like rubbing salt upon wounds even though on the surface level we know you're trying to help.

>But after the story and pictures were published in local media, a team of medics visited him and promised to do what they could to help in order to ease his suffering. However the reports did not indicate when the treatment would start or whether there was any hope of repairing any of the horrific damage.
I think we all know that that is unfixable. I'm not cursing the man at all, but lets be realistic here. You can't restore someone's face which is being eaten away, losing like 70% of what you once have to the point you have no cheeks, no eyes, no nose, not even your upper jaw, and all that remains is the cavity behind it all. So just shut the fuck up already.

No surprise it coming from the typical narcissistic delusional whore retard of a mother towards the man who's actually doing something hard.
It's not even funny that she actually says that.
>>
>>16983215
There is a need to be cynical because you're missing out on the part that the parents are responsible for letting their children happen. What you people and most of the world who adores and admire them is giving them a +1 for their hard work in coping (which in itself is fine), but you're missing out on the fact that there's a -1 for letting their children be birthed. For lying to themselves that this is okay. The reality is that it is not okay. The children will never think for themselves, feel anything for anyone around them, or give anything to the society.
We have no obligation to volunteer to take care of those "vegetables" because there isn't a need for us to, fuckwit, so I don't even see how that's relevant. We aren't the parents, and less so the ones who gave the green light to keep the children who are going to grow up living less of a life than other kids.

From mom's blog:
>Lola Grace was born one month prematurely on April 28, 2006 after a fairly normal pregnancy and an oh-so-speedy (natural!) delivery. Due to the fact that her big sister, Claire, has a genetic condition called microcephaly, meaning a small brain and head, we monitored this pregnancy closely via ultrasound. We were told that we had a 25% chance for recurrence, but the risk was worth it to us to have another baby
