just started college in the UK after leaving home
My problem is that the internet is college owned, they monitor everything.
I need a private connection for porn and torrenting (anime/films/games/software). And protection from monitoring.
Also, where the FUCK do i jerk off. Bathrooms are shared.

1. They have blocked any site deemed appropriate, and since this is the UK, they have the funds to log history, which i wont risk (4chan is blocked because its "pornographic", im using mobile data right now)

Basically, what browsing/torrenting security should i look at from experience? TOR seems overkill, but a VPN doesnt seem enough.
Aside from off and on porn, my main torrenting habits (ie daily) are anime and native instruments software (they have a strong foundation here in the UK, which worries me)
I dont want someone to start monitoring when they notice the unusually high daily traffic

2. Well take a look at Private Internet Access, it's one of the cheaper premium VPN services. I think it's about $7 for one month (whatever that is in Euros) so it's a very small investment to see if it works. It's encrypted so there should be no issues. Alternatively you could google around for some free VPNs but your school might have blocked them already. Plus they tend to be very slow, and most of them are banned from 4chan.
As for where to jack off, I assume you're stuck in a dorm room with at least one other guy right? In your own room would be best but if your roomie is unpredictable that's very hazardous. It can be awkward to sort out stuff with him directly, but if that is an option I suggest you take it.
If you have a laptop then you can consider doing it elsewhere, provided you can find some place secluded enough. If you don't have a curfew this will be easier. Private AV rooms or study rooms in the library are your best bet probably, but these are often only available during daylight hours and it might be hard to secure one for yourself. Just look around campus and see if there's any place that might work.

TOR was compromised ages ago and would indeed be over kill. It's slow as fuck anyway. Pretty much any VPN would probably be enough to avoid being monitored, to test this see if your school has blocked any free VPNs. If they have, then you know a premium one will work. Cause they wouldn't bother blocking it unless they couldn't monitor you through even an unencrypted tunnel.

Using phones is an easy way but can get expensive.
Also you should know that how your school is monitoring you is that all connections get filtered through their own proxy server, which has various websites and connections blacklisted.
The only way to avoid this is to either use a different internet connection (like your phone's data plan) or to find a way to trick the filter with a tunnel or proxy that hides your connections so they can't be flagged. The simplest way to trick it would be to do like >>99998 says and remotely connect to a second PC with a different internet connection. Other than that you'd have to find a proxy or VPN with a connection that isn't blacklisted, you'd probably have luck with SSL ones. Try googling for help with college internet filters.

Well, the only way then is to use a completely separate internet connection form the college one, because even if you use a VPN/VPS/somebody's else computer as a tunnel they are gonna see a shitload of traffic going to your computer.

I doubt they would. I mean, you're not gonna be torrenting hundreds of GB of shit right? They'd probably notice that. If you're just torrenting anime or some software now and then it'll be nothing really. Besides if they cared about that they'd just give students a data cap/allowance. If you have unlimited internet access then as long as you're not downloading hundreds of gigs of anime in one weekend or something you'd have nothing to worry about.

Im not going to bother with the connection to a UAE Pc. It still leaves room for people to snoop, and I cant control that without someone i trust with another machine. Maintaining that would just be a total hassle.
As for security, ill get a vpn to use for torrenting. My chrome extension works for browsing, and VPN is what everyone recommended, so ill stick to it.
Ill just have to search for a way to get that private connection. And a solid reliable VPN

You'll just have to lay off that while you're at university. At least until you manage to get access to a secure internet connection. I'm not really familiar with how strict ISPs in Britain are regarding piracy so you may want to proxy even if you have a separate connection.

I did some asking, most people say VPN is enough, which is a charge im willing to pay monthly for security.
The only other problem is that i cant use college/dorm internet for these purposes, and cant just use data forever (though the plans here are much better than the UAE)
