how do I resize an png image without losing its transparency?

how do I resize an png image without losing its transparency? I have gimp because I know you can do it on that but im not used to this program so im asking for help

resize in paint, then transfer to gimp and then select by color, click background, on the top bar go in the color menu, and then there should be a "replace with alpha" option

or just learn how to use gimp, it just takes a bit of fucking around to get used to
