Why is the text pixelated?
How can I make it not to without cheating with blur or something?

sorry, wrong image, right one is pic related
you cant fix that, you just have to redo the text in Photoshop or whatever. make sure you DONT save it in a lossy format like JPG. use PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF.
if it was scanned in 2-bit black-and-white, you can scan it again in 256-color grayscale, or 64K-color RGB.

but it becomes pixelated even before saving it, in ps itself it's already pixelated..
image is 300dpi, might be the problem?
perhaps you've chosen a very low-res font. it should never look that awful with a regular font.

Nessun problema
a gaussian blur of 1 pixel will get it even smoother
