Space Adventure Cobra. Laid back, somewhat lazy, badass protagonist. Cool, jazzy soundtrack. Loosely adapted the Total Recall story ten years before Total Recall did.

There aren't to many western focused anime. The closest recent things I could think of are maybe Kekkai Sensen because it's a western focused fairly episodic show and Death parade because it's an episodic show that appeals to westerners.
Elevens don't really like episodic shows, let alone episodic shows in space featuring an adult non-high school attending male.

He Directed Bebop, Champloo and Space Dandy.
If you noticed the heavy emphasis on music in the director's works. it is intentional because he directs an anime about Music before it is being about quirky characters and weirdass settings.
Cowboy Bebop = Blues & Jazz
Champloo = Rap & Hiphop
Kids on the Slope = Jazz & Classical
Space Dandy = Funk & Psychedilc
Terror in Resonance = Ambient & Icelandic Pop
These titles are mediocre if you exclude the musical theme of each one.
