i saw a few anime a decade ago and really liked them (Cowboy Bebop mostly). i'm trying to get back into anime so i watched Attack on Titan and it was great.
then i decided to watch some of the more popular animes on imdb
just finished watching princess mononoke and it sucked.
here are some that are on the list i'm about to watch:
- spirited away (looks gay as fuck)
- grave of the fireflies (looks good, but more "WW2 was sad" shit)
- My Neighbor Totoro (all my nerd friends like it but it looks gay as fuck)
- Howl's moving castle (looks gay)
Is this the best anime has to offer?

Just stick with shounen and you will be fine. Try to avoid films/series with realistic and nuanced characters with a heavy emphasis on emotion because it'd probably just make you angry. Alternatively kill yourself.

Gundam: War in the Pocket ("0080"), is a pretty short series, only six episodes long, so roughly two hours of your time. You don't need to be familiar with the main Gundam setting or even be a huge fan of mecha to enjoy it, and it's generally considered to be one of the better entries in the Gundam franchise.
