Hi all,

I was about to pull the trigger on the ASUS PB278Q, but the salesman was saying that 1440 is not really a good resolution, since the majority of content will be released in 4k in the future, and that 1080 content wont scale well on 1440 (which I understand). He was saying if I want a monitor to last me for 5-6 years, go with 2160, or 1080 now and wait for 2160 (since 1080 is way cheaper). Basically, unless I am gaming or doing video/image editing, dont go with 1440, go either 1080 or 2160.

I am going to use it for everyday things, like coding, browsing, watching youtube, and gaming (not competitive or hardcore though). I am planning to learn Blender pretty soon as well, but I don't think I will be doing hardcord stuff.

So what do you guys think, based on my use cases? Also, I want a 27" monitor. At work, we use a 27" 1080 monitor, and it's nice, but it's not as crisp as my laptop or 24" monitor that I have a home.

I have a 27' 1440p monitor I really like. Although I think 4k being relevant on the consumer scale in less than five years wont happen.

Get 1080. 4K is just a gimmik until it becomes a mainstay, which would be a couple years from now.

Suggestions for brand/model?

If I were you, I'd just go for a 1080p. If you REALLY like to have it big then get a 1440p or 2160p but for me 1080p would be more than enough, for real.
