Is there a way to find out the native resolution for an anime

Is there a way to find out the native resolution for an anime series? Like a database someone put together, or something?
Don't wanna double my file sizes on an upscale, and from what I've heard, quite a bit is 720p.

I know Anibin can cover modern digital releases, but I'm not sure how far back it goes.

Nah, it'll depend on the intermediate digital master.

No-one's going to bother finding some old film and re-scanning it; they're just going to use a copy of whatever it got scanned to when they were making the DVD.
