So i recently got a ps3 from a guy for thirty or so bucks. He told me it didn't work so i agreed to take it off his hand so i could fiddle with it.

When i met up with him i checked for a hard drive, forked over cash, and shook his hand. Later when i brought it home i decided to do a bit of trouble shooting and plugged it in. It seemed to boot up fine and this excited me quite a bit. But it wasn't working when i plugged it in to the tv. I tried two different hdmi cables (one of which i knew worked because it goes to my Wii U) and it didn't work. So i tried an old ps3 A/V cable i had from before my old ps3 got stolen and it reset video output settings and it worked!

The problem is that i wanna use HDMI because i have a pretty nice hdtv but the port doesn't output any signal. Is there any way i can fix this?

Also my friend and i took it apart because we saw that the warranty sticker had been peeled off and the motherboard seemed to have some sticky shit crusted onto it and two or so of the pins that the hdmi port was connected to had that shit on it and it looks fucked up.

Tl; dr help me fix my hdmi because previous owner is a fuck.

Clean it with alcohol.

Boot it into safe mode, and set the resolution back to 480i.

It might not be the case that its HDMI is set to a weird resolution, but that should be the first thing you should check.

Take it outside.

Put it in a place where the sun is shining on it from behind you, but not directly behind you.

Prop your phone up against something so it's pointed at the ps3, tap the ps3 on the screen to tell it to focus.

Put your phone in "delayed shutter" mode and press the shutter.

You will end up with a photo of your PS3 that doesn't look like it has been run through a blur filter.

If all else fails with the HDMI port, you can go the component route, which can give you HD output. You'd need to buy a component cable for your PS3 and have the ports on your TV (most HDTVs do), though.
