Haven't watched that many horror animus aside from Mononoke
Type of horror doesn't really matter
Fantasy series with cool monster designs and gore also allowed ie. Berserk and Gantz

An Yami Shibai anime
One would think there are plenty of horror anime series but I haven't found that many which seemed interesting
There was also some series about cryptoids I watched for couple of episodes but got bored
Mouryou no Hako.
It has no monsters, is a slow anime adaption of a novel, and it's first episode is tonally different than the rest of the series. Also the first ten episodes are extremely slow and I doubt you'd enjoy it. It's my favorite anime.

Maruo Suehiro and Hino Hideshi have both done quite a few horror manga. Hell Season is quite horrifying.
